I totally agree this is the most likely result. But as we have been told the Sunfish Class Association has allowed none LP parts ( made by Sunfish direct ) to be used at their events, is it possible they might go the next stage and allow none LP made boats into their events ? I am not saying...

Totally agree , see my earlier post about the people behind the Sol doing their due diligence. Either way , with the people behind the Sol also importing Sunfish and the similarity to the Sunfish ,there is a very big chance that Lawyers will be involved somewhere along the line.

Oh I see what you mean now , sorry . No idea whether a slightly modified boat that’s designed to conform closely to an existing boat is a new boat . The show did so I suppose that’s all that matters as far as BOTY is concerned.

I really hope they have done their due diligence legally wise, and this turns out to be the way forward for the Sunfish class . Just about anything is better than having your class controlled by LP.

I guessed this was the way this boat had come to the market . I wish it the best and hope it’s dotted the I s and crossed the T s legally. Because if the Sunfish is a a true SMOD is it possible for another manufacturer to use the same hull shape ? I ask is I don’t know the answer .

This could make the Sunfish market very interesting going forward , it’s opens up loads of possibilities , for the classes, for sailors and possibly for lawyers too .

Your sailing experience must be a lot wider than mine, as I don’t think I’ve ever carried a emergency repair kit and a fm radio in a singlehanded boat 😀. On a more serious note , is there any sort of publicity about it anywhere ? I’ve tried doing a Google search and drawn a blank .

Knowing the manufacturer of the Sunfish is allegedly not the easiest to deal will , I think we could all make a guess or two. 😂 Hopefully someone that has some inside info will post some facts on the situation. .

I totally understand and I also understand it’s not going to change, but it why the USA has so many old classes . If you have a good handicap scene it allows a class to grow organically at different locations with out the need for half a dozen people to buy in to a new class at a club . Tbh...
