I think this is one of those times where a short email or phone call before the race would have made everyone happier.
As I hear it, Ruffles decided they'ed rather spend their vacation vacationing rather than litigating, and believe they would have won the protest on merit.
Perhaps they would...
It was sad to see it leave RYC, but good to see it being used the way it should be.
They sailed a great race. Crazy that after 3 days their fleet had a 300 mile north/south spread.
I'm pretty impressed that Azure and CruzSea both managed to come out of their northerly positions looking pretty good on their competitors. A day or so ago, I thought CruzSea was hosed as they kept working north.
nothing as sad as coming up on watch the next morning and still seeing the Farallons. If I remember right, the tail end boat-a wetsnail 32, ended up sailing through the eye of the hurricane that just missed Hawaii that year
Was that you driving 45, taking pictures down 1 this afternoon? :cautious::LOL:
I'm intrigued by where CruzSea Baby and the Cal 40's are today, but if I could pick someone to be on the race course right now, I'd choose Foamy. I hope those up north can thread a line south in the next day, but...
I can understand you reasoning, but I don't think historical Pac Cup results support your theory.
The most frequent DH winners are Ex27's and M24's, both boats with strong enough fleets that if anything, they're penalized by PHRF.
I don't think forcing everyone to a measured rule makes sense...
Is that the old Bustin Loose? Hope you still have the big kites, should be tons of fun.
The weight loss is suspicious-I'm curious who prepped her for measurement before. There's a rigger in the bay with a history of boats he works on miraculously shedding pounds after a change of ownership...
I may be traumatized by an Olson 30 nationals in Santa Cruz. We had the worst round down I've ever experienced, took forever getting back up and sorted, and went from 4th to 1st because everyone else had crashed even harder.
Lots of interesting matchups throughout the fleet.
Gotta have the Erkelens as the ones to beat for DH1, though the rest of the Moores aren't too shabby either. Could see the E27's do well too, especially if it's a lighter year. I don't know much about the current owners, but Moonshine knows the...
