    Wa'apa build - a few questions

Being cheap, I put my own lever handle on the wheel for those times you have to grunt the needle through webbing and a bunch of layers. Basically drill two holes in the retaining screw and put two pegs matching the holes on the lever...instant leverage for a couple bucks.

Are Performance "Cruising" Catamarans Safe? - by Antares Catamarans

It is best when viewing pretty much anything on line (political, advert, performance....) what is said about figures and statistics. "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics." "Figures don't lie, but liars figure" Yah, my name is Thomas and I do doubt everything.

    Wa'apa build - a few questions

That's a portable version of the same thing (handle and the arm is short). To make sails you will want the arm as long as possible because you will be stuffing fabric through the hole.

    Wa'apa build - a few questions

Yah, sewing becomes its own hobby after a while. I use one of those clones--likely made in the same Chinese factory as the sailrite. Bought on eBay, walking foot, zig zag. Wore one out and bought another. Learning to sew, though, can eat up many hours and be a source of real irritation when...

    Wa'apa build - a few questions

You could just hang there and use the monsoon winds to come back when they get there. Then no upwind needed.

    Wa'apa build - a few questions

I think you guys are being a little too negative. Lotsa home built sailing canoes out there and mostly a lot of wet fun. Cheap too. I'd go with a windsurfer rig on a stub and keep it light. Here's just one wa'apa on a lake (with leeboard) and he's not pointing high, but he's making it move...

    Wa'apa build - a few questions

Start here ... waapa blog https://waapa.blogspot.com/ and here... Wa'apa Project boat Jib is likely to be useless upwind. To go upwind you will need a leeboard. Practice paddling since you will be doing a lot of it to weather.

    Randy Smyth sails

I dunno if he does. But he did redesign the sail suite for the SeaRails about 4 years ago. I truly like the mainsail design. Jib design is "just OK" (10% camber and fits in the triangle...right?). Spin (not really a spin at 55% SMG) doesn't fly stable (for me anyway). I "get" that he can...

    Is it just me

Brings to mind the short lived "superfoiler" trimarans. One team consistently won. Probably led to the demise of the events. Playing with the numbers is useful when choosing a new ride. Even though the published weights are typically wrong by 20% but can still give an idea whether or not...

    Is it just me

It is fun to play with dimensions and take a guess about some unknowable real world situation. But in real world situations, they only play out approximately. We did two boat "regatta" with a couple buddies. The calcs said that a Weta would be faster than a Hobie Getaway both with 2...

Seems to me, TomFl, you have been looking for this new toy for several years now (since about 2017 if I recall correctly); I think you just like looking...Not that there is anything wrong with that.

    Is it just me

And as you pointed out earlier, skippers make a difference otherwise your M23 would have rated equal to the other one in socal. :) There are always faster boats, there are always more comfortable boats, there are always cheaper boats, some boats get you from trailer to sailing in minutes, some...

    Is it just me

Well, the hand crafted (and beautiful) Humdinger is 25 ft long (7.62 m), only 950 pounds (431 kg) and has 385 sq ft white sails (35.8 sq m). So I think this beautiful boat will likely at least keep up with the DPLP boats. At a reasonable price...Floats designed by Irens (like my boat). Just...

    Is it just me

https://forums.sailinganarchy.com/threads/humdinger.236785/#post-7959632 Humdinger is a really nice trimaran, hand crafted and at 25' it is as fast or faster than most tris with longer waterlines. Ask Russell about it as well as ol surfer.

Search this forum for "My New Tender" with the author he b gb. There are two threads, the original my new tender and the follow on my new tender...redux. Started way back in 2016 when he started construction, the video above is the latest iteration when he replaced the cloth sails with wings...

You might want a pinnace for your big boat. He b gb made his own Tassie in a different thread which I think is the coolest boat for a tender I've ever seen.

Cruise, Day Sail, Race...? Why do you own a toy?

Yah, I get that, "get away from it ALL". But you can still do that without owning...charter a condomaran with captain and cook after flying close to where you want to be. Depends on disposable income.

Advice please, cruising occasionally racing catamaran for < 500k USD

Hey Trevor, there are about half a dozen active threads on this topic...most recently about some boat to be named Uhurru although he has a bigger budget. Just search for performance catamaran.
