I actually volunteered to take Ad sailing in post #5 in the SA thread, days and days ago. For some reason he wasn't entranced by the idea. This was the middle of January, it can be nice in winter.

In Seattle, the Chihuly exhibit is incredible if you like glass. http://www.chihulygardenandglass.com/ We were blown away. Go mid-afternoon so you can see it at night too.

Butchart Gardens in winter is fabulous. Close to Christmas there are musicians, skating rinks, and all sorts of things going on. With the early dark, the Millions of lights show up really well, and if there's snow it's even better. If there's no snow, it's still good.
