The kiwis are coming home to roost

I'd completely forgotten about that.... https://sailracewin.blogspot.com/2009/01/new-ac33-class-rule.html

The kiwis are coming home to roost

    Indeed....

The kiwis are coming home to roost

All the points made above by other, perfectly valid. No, the cup hasn't been run remotely so quickly as I postulated - and maybe it couldn't be run quite so quickly but every 18 months to 2 years would be eminently do-able. Ultimately the longer the gap the more likely numbers of new boats are...

The kiwis are coming home to roost

Perhaps the event should look at going back to 1-on-1 Deed of Gift challenges to be held on perhaps an annual basis... ? This obviously lowers the field but increases the frequency.  And at that pace it would keep the stakes high and the target moving.  Perhaps a boat might even survive...

Budget???  What's this budget thing you speak of...?  ;)

Just get those containers of equipment in those private jets too...  Wonder how many private jets you'd need to get a team somewhere... even assuming one wanted to.

The kiwis are coming home to roost

Well, it was quite a lot shorter for starters...

The kiwis are coming home to roost

And sooo easy too.  With no flights and the borders all closed or closing.  Not to mention quarantine requirements. And the question of when or whether they'd be able to return to their NZ base or play any meaningful wider role in the cup defence for at least a number of months. And all the...

The kiwis are coming home to roost

You say I'm self assured (like that's a bad thing) about things only a team engineer could know.  And then go on to say the teams themselves don't know these things...  You can't have it both ways.  I've not done more than apply a little common logic to the issue.  Am I right?  Who knows?  But...

The kiwis are coming home to roost

Still NOT A SURROGATE.  Read the Protocol. As for your other meanderings in this post... I know the Americans are very quick to label kiwis thin skinned or overly parochial - in this post the same might be said for the positions you postulate. Whether Cagliari 'could' have gone ahead is moot if...

The kiwis are coming home to roost

The difference between a brief high-level discussion of the possibility between nations and it actually being implemented is huge.  Yes, I'm sure it will happen.  But perhaps no time soon.  Much water to go under the bridge yet in both countries regardless how well it seems to be going...

The kiwis are coming home to roost

Not necessarily.  Unless they've got a vaccine others don't.

The kiwis are coming home to roost

At very least I believe the defender will need to.  Or at least be committed and able to, come the day. But yes, eminently possible currently.

The kiwis are coming home to roost

And by late June/early July we might just see them closed again... At the moment, it's all just speculation and one foot in front of the other.

The kiwis are coming home to roost

It'll never be raced anywhere but Auckland - at a very simplistic level the northern hemisphere provisions were simply an arm twist on the NZ government to obtain the desired support and infrastructure ETNZ sought. Not sure about Feb 2012...  ;) but there won't be any vaccine for the masses...

The kiwis are coming home to roost

Yes indeed, hindsight is a wonderful thing.  Of course... there's no guarantee the borders will be open or that Sardinia will be any more welcoming than any other territory with closed borders right now, Americas Cup World Series or not...  And what would a 2 month deferral have meant for...
