I think this misses the point of the race. There's plenty of races to enter where you can carry an auxiliary or where the auxillary is actually a requirement. On the other hand, the point of R2AK, as I see it, is to have an opportunity to test yourself in one of the rare instances of modern life...
Well that's rather disappointing to hear. I'd get pretty frustrated going 7kts in 10kts of wind after spending this sort of money and then getting passed by a j/boat. Doesn't seem very "beast" like I'm my book.
All this talk of so much power to manage. Where's the performance?
I was hoping...
The polars are part of the Seahorse article. The article says the polars were prepared by the designer, Marc Lombard.
No idea if these are fully loaded or not.
ORC 57 is sailing. Seahorse just did a write up:

Good looking boat. I love the concept. Fits my idea of a cruising boat. But... is it me, or are these polars pretty disappointing for a $1.5M+ 57' LOA...
That makes more sense. So sorry this happened to you guys! How did it go down? How fast were you going? Please share.
Can you think of any strategies to improve the odds in the future? Slow for 60 seconds at the first sign of floating debris? Headlamps seem like they would just kill the crew's...
Well I'm between boats at the moment and totally armchair quarterbacking this one. Just finished a condomaran charter through the southern section of the course today and saw a rediculous amount of logs in the water. Way more than we saw when I did the race. Everything was avoidable during the...
I agree 100%. But... my assessment for a fast trimaran is that the effort to engineer and fabricate a fully custom drivetrain, when you can just buy an old bike and mount it, isn't worth it. If you've got the time and budget and like building custom kit put that effort and money into making the...
Good point, but if you setup on the foredeck the whole thing needs to be removable, right? Otherwise you'll be snagging lines every maneuver. There's certainly room for one pedaler behind the rear beam on both the SeaCart and Mama Tried. And Mama Tried would make her best time double-handled...
I talked to one of Team Malolo before the start and asked which way they were going to go. They were coy and wouldn't say, but did mention concern about potentially beating into 30+ knots offshore for 2 days and not breaking the boat.
Obviously they turned left at the start and in hindsight and...
I think the paddlewheel guys are being ironic.
Malolo's setup is pretty close to what I would go with for a trimaran like Mama Tried or the SeaCart. Being able to change gears is worthwhile in my opinion.
Huge bummer. Is Dragon raced regularly? Or does she only come out of the barn for R2AK?
Drives me nuts seeing monohulls lead this thing. This should be a multihull race all day long. I think it's that the Farriers are basically cruising boats and aren't that fast. And boats like Dragon and Bad...
