How Long does Marine Wiring last?

I'm just finishing up a similar project on my 50 year old Yankee 38.......I ended up with a mix of original, updated and new wiring depending on condition during inspection and testing.  You should assume that all terminations/splices that are not crimp style (e.g. soldered, wire nut, terminal...

My Seatalk ng and NMEA 2000 Don't Like Each Other............

Thanks Simon............what you're saying makes sense.  I never thought that i would need 2 power supplies to run this small network but that might be why i get nothing on my GPS when it's hooked directly to the n2k system port.  I might call Garmin tech support and ask about 2 wires (one for...

My Seatalk ng and NMEA 2000 Don't Like Each Other............

Thanks Snowden for the response..........I'm currently connecting the adaptor cable to the black/white spur port of the STNG tee.......I've tried both male and female adaptor cables and they both have spur ends on them, so not sure if there is an STNG backbone to N2K adaptor cable out there. ...

My Seatalk ng and NMEA 2000 Don't Like Each Other............

Simon;  more good thoughts........I'll try to answer as best I can as follows: The Garmin Echomap 60 Plus has 3 ports on the back:  power, NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000.  when I hook the GPS to the power port as the system is now configured the unit works fine, but does not communicate or share data...

My Seatalk ng and NMEA 2000 Don't Like Each Other............

Hi Simon.......I installed the iTC-5 per the instruction manual similar to the layout attached.....the iTC-5 is powered via the white spur connection and has 2 blue backbone connections, so I installed it sort of like a "hub" to collect all analog instrument data from the transducers, convert it...

My Seatalk ng and NMEA 2000 Don't Like Each Other............

Thanks Alex for the quick reply!   I previously used a Seatalk NG in-line terminator where the diagram currently shows a backbone tee, did not install the NMEA 2000 tee/terminator and got the same results.  Also, I have a 5-pin x 4-pin cable (required by this version of Garmin GPS) connected to...

My Seatalk ng and NMEA 2000 Don't Like Each Other............

My new boat to me came with a mixed bag of new instruments I'm currently installing.  It's a pretty simple lash-up as shown in the diagram, but I'm stuck with getting the Garmin GPS to share info with the Raymarine wind and water information.  I've tried a number of combinations of adaptor...

    IOR landfills?

Thanks Liquid.......a couple more pics of the mostly original build below deck.  Also a pretty cool find when I pulled the mast to replace the carbon steel "T-Beam" mast step with G-10, I found the original 1972 Eisenhower/Apollo silver dollar that I'm thinking the builder John Schumaker threw...

    IOR landfills?

Long time lurker and finally a participant in this awesome forum........my current project is bringing this Yankee 38 named Bullet (hull no. 1, sailed in the 1972 1-ton World Championships in Sydney Australia) back to sail-worthy condition.  with the help of lots of useful info on this site i...
