Agree with all, apart from the assumption that the data is wrong. I have seen no evidence that the current Celestial data is wrong, only a little different, which could be for a multitude of reasons.
Interesting how the focus here seems to be on the rating system, when it is actually the validity of measurement data that is in question.
What I mean is, we are not questioning how the maths works, but what numbers are input.
As the Australian Rule Authority, AS is responsible for the Measurers...
Ignore ORC displacement slight changes, you will never get the same results twice from hull scans and measuring freeboards from loosely defined points.
To me the question needs to be, was the measurement data of the last measurement accurate? If there is evidence a mistake was made, for any...
JonRowe,
We hear from the team all these arguments about all they did, but none of that changes the fact that the body responsible for OSR have confirmed that it doesn’t comply with OSR.
If the class is ok with the solution then I am sure the members can vote on a class rule amendment to allow...
But the IMOCA class doesn’t apply rule 3.11, so don’t have to comply with it. The Ultim class applies OSR in its entirety. That is where the problem lies for Gabart and Co.
I do think that Loic has missed one point though: He may feel that those who write the safety rules are out of touch with how these boats are sailed, and that the rules are out of date. He is probably right about that. But the Ultim Class, that is managed by the group of sailors who do sail...
But the rules aren’t about visibility forward or distance from the helm, they are about crew members being substantially above deck when using the winches.
May not seem relevant to this type of boat, but their rules require it to apply.
It is always easiest to blame the rating or handicap system when results don’t come out exactly as you expect, invariably with your own skills not being fully recognised and you ending up being beaten by those you feel you are better than.
Rating yacht racing is not and never can or should be...
Seems strange to appoint experts to review this rather than go straight to World Sailing, who manage and own the copyright of OSR. Would have thought they would be the first door to knock on rather than the last.
surely the “experts” opinions are irrelevant compared to the official authority on...
World Sailing are not the ones to control the Ultim class, that is up to the class management. That is all they are saying. If the Ultim class incorporates OSR into their class rules, that is up to them. But if they adopt them in full and the WS SRSC answer an interpretation request saying that...
Yes, so Ultime Class adopts OSR so are bound by them. IMOCA replaces OSR with own rules.
So this has no effect on HB, provided she sails in the IMOCA class rather than general classification.
