Assuming her account of being left to fend for herself and raise her little brother while the parents sailed away is a bold-faced lie, then I would imagine the father would have an account that they stayed together throughout this adventure.
Has anyone found this alternative history?
Apologies if this has been posted. Chuck Paine has a FB fan group. He bought a stripped-out 26' Frances hull and is currently redesigning it.
A 'full circle' project taking his first famous design and, re-designing it at the end of his career, for his own use.
I've revealed it several times. It's right next to the more popular spot Elugua (I think), referred to off Devil Island.
It looks look a teacup at LW but in fact, I could drive a semi in there - sideways. But thankfully it looks too scary so it's rarely occupied.
After more than 60 years, this (I've pulled worse) mild steel backing plate is surprisingly sound. It's only purpose is to take the threads of the bolts through the SS chainplate. In actual load from the rig, the hat frame takes the pull from the bolts. It's nice to know that even when a mistake...
It's as good as Youtube sailing gets. A thong, whoopie. At least there is a sailboat, down there.
But hold on,...
Maybe there is a story here? Youtube Sailing,.. is sinking sailing?
Sex sells, we all know that. But we also know that it takes clever delivery, thoughtful art, an experienced...
I've not seen the authentic David by Michelangelo (you have to wait in line in Florence Italy), but I've seen the replica outside. It's quite amazing and the present weirdness by some would never have occurred to me. The human form has been expressed beautifully for eons.
Meanwhile, next door in the boatyard, the Yanmar in our son's 5K boat was saved. The boys made a good decision to hire a pro to get it sorted out. The cost, another 5K for new injectors, rebuild injection pump, replace bent valve pushrods and a general going over. I heard it roar back to life...
I've only used my emergency tiller once in 22 seasons, but I've used it several times over the years for a handy breaker bar onboard. This is the third backer plate for a chainplate I've replaced so I know the drill.
The 15mmSS bolts that go through glass 1/4" thick 'hat frame' are embedded in...
True, they sort of had a real teak deck in mind, for strength, and not much bond between deck and substrate.
I think from my exploration, that the designers of the 50's over-rated the strength of their plywood. The teak sole of my old cockpit still had plenty of life left.
The 1/2" plywood...
"Ranch dressing is a scourge, and can be prevented with adequate forethought. This whale-induced sinking should make everyone wake up and pay attention."
Besides that a boat sunk, I have no idea what this thread is about. Ranch dressing has no relevance in a meaningful conversation.
I'm...
I wasn't aware of a 'grub' in this type of work. Building my cockpit a few years ago, I friend who is a wooden boat expert (a living archive) explained the term.
I knew I needed a transition between the raw sole/deck, and the 3/4" marine fir/glass and painted cockpit well.
Just one of many...
You know these old boats. I've always admired this K Aagie Nielsen 42' sloop, presently getting a cockpit rebuild.
The shapely corner blocks are a new design addition to a 60-year-old sailboat.
