PHRF with pro's. That's the funniest thing I've heard this week.

Keep Your Pros on the Dock

Easy to have a corinthian class in regattas / races. If regularly done on some pretty major events. .. doesn't get much publicity, or the cachet, though.

Just dredging this up because I need to replace my old plate-hook tether.. (It's a PITA that AS aren't aligned with WS.. ) WS: https://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/WSOffshoreSpecialRegulations20222023v2-[27823].pdf Each crew member shall have: ... 5.02.2 A tether that shall: MoMu0,1,2,3...

yeh - the stupid part of that change is that I'm sure the cast/forged parts would snap with the same side loading which bends the plate style.

IPRCS is just a straw man, let's assume there's some other set of rules for the sake of discussion, please. btw - pittwater club in question now states races are under RRS. AS still avoiding the conflict, preferring to strong-man smaller less well resourced clubs?

right - but the case you cited specifically says Rule 89.1 specifies the types of organizations that are authorized to be the organizing authority for races governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing. .. and it came about due to someone wanting to appeal a protest to the MNA, of which the OA was...

The wording is "A ‘Prohibited Event’ means an event" WS Definitions for 'Event' list the following: Event, Class; Event, Graded; Events, International; Events, World Sailing; Events, Major; Events, National; Events, Recognized 25.8.12 has some more words as to what things like 'major' and...

I can't see how RRS 89.1 (or any part of the RRS) applies to races if you're not using the RRS. RRS 89.1 applies because of RRS 3 - acceptance of rules. 3.1 (a) By participating or intending to participate in a race conducted under these rules, each competitor and boat owner agrees to accept...

I'm no lawyer - but the relevant WS regs AS are citing are below. Solution appears to be ditch the RRS and use IRPCAS or something else, then you're not violating RRS 89.1, and hence nor WS 19.20 ...

Organizing Sailing as Gouvernail Sees It.

Australian sailing fees are about 6x those numbers in the band I live in. My dinky club pays 20% of our membership subscription (or ~ 10% of gross income excluding capex grants) to AS. From a distance, the RYA looks significantly more useful to their member clubs.

I know of an unaffiliated club (maybe same club you mentioned previously?) which often has some reasonably high profile sailors participating in its events. One way to break the ridiculous anti-trust stranglehold is to call out AS on those sailors, or encourage even more visible and larger...

admiral - you are mistaken. Just like here in Oz, YNZ's majority of funding (~$5.7M in 2022) is from government for the 5-ringed circus, not affiliation fees ($0.6M). See the annual report at https://www.yachtingnz.org.nz/resources/annual-report So just like in Oz, YNZ's focus is driven by...

Organizing Sailing as Gouvernail Sees It.

Serious question - does anyone actually see this happen in the US or anywhere else? Here in Aus, it is overwhelmingly the class associations that drive inter-club events, states, nationals, etc. Further up - it is the international class associations which drive at their level. Even for...

Electrolyte supplements are best Hydralyte works, but is exxy. I use the local ALDI brand - they look the same to me. Who in their right mind uses plastic bottles only once? Put a couple of bicycle bottle cages in their boats and use bike bottles. Easy to fill. Honestly - for kids, what's...

    Keel Modification - Increase stability

I was involved in cutting some lead out of a keel way back - used a chainsaw. I'd tend towards woodworking tools for lead - maybe a large spade bit if you want to drill holes.

I see two version of this; 1/ top people at AS are doing the right thing. 2/ someone had to pull a favour to get the right thing done 1/ is a good sign. 2/ means AS still has issues.
