I think I saw a big step in the side decks in the renderings. For me that's just a disaster waiting to happen for crew needing to get fwd or aft quickly, not only on a dark and windy night.
We revisited this question a number of times, and in the end always came back to a Red Ensign Group flag for our boats, in our case Gibraltar. It’s a very straightfwd process there, efficient service providers available, much less red tape and administrative limitations than for example in...
Last time I checked, as a EU citizen I could set up a US company to own the vessel, and if it has US citizens as directors (not shareholders) you can legally get a USCG registration. There are full service providers in Delaware who will do that for you, for reasonable fees.
Captaining with a EU...
Probably for a reason - but they will readily insure Red Ensign Group flags.
We had Gibraltar registration, and would just let Pantaenius know once we changed oceans or regions, like departing Canaries or entering Panama Canal, and they would adjust premiums to pre-agreed rates and send an...
Lorima built this rig for a large rtw performance cruising cat a number of years back, that also went to high latitudes.
The skipper was very happy with the setup when I talked to him after he had returned to EU. Lacking spreaders, his only problem was, where to properly fly his courtesy flags 😜
Might have to do with better accessibility for maintenance, both for engine aft and systems remaining midships.
Looking at the rendering of the owner's cabin, hull beam appears larger aft now. That might allow for engine installation with room for maintenance access possibly even with a...
There is a large performance cruising VPLP cat out there, built by an ex Maxi owner as his last boat (and first cat). It was built with a vang, and they kept it when re-rigging a few years later. Experieced professional project, and apparently they liked this set-up.
So far myself I have put high-power alternators only on out-of-warranty engines.
If it comes installed factory new though, like the 150A units on the GB 68 Yanmars, the installation would certainly be approved by the engine manufacturer, and covered by the builder's warranty.
Both Nanni Diesel and Steyr Motors were offering hybrid solutions, with generators/motors bolted directly between engine flywheel and transmission. Current status of availability appears to be unclear though.
