I like the line in Ward's followup where the original F35 test pilot says "the system is so good that there is a joke that the carrier deck has grooves worn into it from every landing hitting the same 3 wire perfectly every time".
Having said that, they also mentioned pilots are required to do...
But Dick Cheney was not Sec of Defense in 1942.
(he killed the development of a replacement low cost Super Tomcat because he said the design was old. Not worthy, but old).
Hence the F22 and F35 with the crazy price tags.
A lot of naval aviators still think that was a major boneheaded decision.
