Lasers appeal to a very broad range of sailor.  Only a very small fraction would be interested in traveling across the country to sail in a major regatta. Finn is a different beast, only really sailed by advanced sailors.  A larger chunk of them would want to go to something like a national...

I get it, not everybody likes the Laser.  The boat does have its faults, and the class drama of the last years (decade actually) I'm sure turns many people off.  However, it is still the most commonly raced sailboat.

The main advantage of the Laser is not the number of boats sailing in a national championship, but that you can find a fleet of them in just about any location in the country.

Remember the change to the fundamental rule a few years back?  The one that gives the class the right to appoint/approve builders?  I had to Google it.  That was back in 2011. I don't think ILCA could do their current action without that rule in place.  Ironically, my impression at the time was...

I can't see a builder in the US wanting to spend the capital to get Laser production up and running.  Not with the existing market for new boats, and certainly not with the current legal situation. Now maybe the right builder could come along, offer a good product at a good price, and actually...

With regard to the ILCA and authorizing a new builder, would they: 1.  Kiss and make up with LP in some way?  Not very likely in my book. 2. Find a third party willing to build and market Laser hulls, starting from scratch.  They would have to create their own molds, train people to build them...

I was once in a Laser dealer looking for parts when the dealer flat out told me to sell my Laser and buy an RS Aero.  I'm not really blaming him given the level of support dealers are getting from LP.  And no, he didn't have what I was looking for. The sad truth is after choosing to put career...

But look at the demographics.  Yes it is a masters regattas, but there are very few apprentices.   You have a greying base of sailors with no new blood coming in.  This will kill the Laser more than a new class, lack of Olympic status, or an indifferent builder.

Looking at Google maps, 10 Marshall Street is a building that is a couple blocks from the water but doesn't look too convenient for boat launching.  It does say "Maclaren" on the door.

My two cents. This isn't about finding a replacement builder for Lasers to use in the Olympics, but a replacement class for the single-handed events.  I was never a fan of the Laser being an Olympic class to start with, but now I wonder what will happen to the class if it is dropped. I don't...

I wonder what Scott v. Chipotle Mexican Grill was about.  Food poisoning?  The victim was too sick from E. coli and salmonella to file suit in a timely manner?

Successful in winning a case, or successful in generating billable hours?

I think all the judge said is that GS has the rights and not Kirby, therefore his case has no merit. There are several counterclaims filed by LP that are still unresolved, and conceivably GS could still sue LP.

Probably only #3.
