WTF!?!?! They were in survival mode, in the middle of a washing machine of a gale; have you ever been in that position? The first thing you reflexively do is try to survive and mitigate the damage..
If you think that was an "attack", then this might not be the proper sandbox for your sensitive sensibilities? May I suggest Sailnet, or Scuttlebutt? :P
I would say that the content posted in the comments area of the Scuttlebutt article, may well be spot on...
According to the final chapter, the person at the helm wanted to push the red mainsheet release button as soon as the weather event hit, but fighting the helm delayed his ability to perform this before the rig came down. Sounds plausible, move along, all has been revealed......
Great video, thanks for sharing!!
Amazing that Mrs. Smeeten was able to get back on board, after having been thrown from the helm, 60 feet clear of Tzu Hang, when they did that 360 degree forward roll.
I don't see how this can be compared to other vessels that dropped a rig and motored home. Never seen a GB in person, but looks like other than bunks and baths in the hulls, all the controls, navs, comms, and helm are situated in the front of the giant main salon which has no hand or grab rails...
And where are the grab or hand rails next to those winches to keep from getting oneself launched across the "family room", when the GB is pitching you about like the inside of a clothes washer in large confused seas and big breeze?
Dude, I said nothing about me, I am no one. So, just carry on with the circle jerk saying the same mostly stupid things over and over again...
EDIT: the first two stories give plenty enough facts to draw a reasonable conclusion.
Where you personally ever in a situation where you thought you might die in the middle of an ocean?
If you actually had, I expect you would bloviate far less about how "you" would never have abandoned THIS ship! Poppycock!
But, hey! This is SA; carry on with the endless, mindless blathering...
THIS!!
The hand wringing thrashing and whipping coming from the armchair Sailor-Boy wannabes, or has-beens, and know-nothings, is of epic proportions in this thread. Pitiful.....
EDIT.. And also the same coming from experienced sailors, who should know better, fer chrisakes!!! If you have...
