Ole 39 did a 40 mile light air race on the Chesapeake Annapolis to Solomons. Not exactly what these boats were designed for. We finished 3rd behind two sport boats then corrected to a distant last place. Fun event nevertheless.
One change I wish I had on my vintage is the much shorter boom. We are reefing the main in 16 knots of wind plus it takes a team of mules to get it to full hoist
We will be racing with 4 on board for 3-4 days. I am thinking of adding a 8gph water maker (80#) and running the motor for one hour twice a day to desalinate. Any experience with this on a vintage class 40?
I should have the rating in 10 days. We will switch to ORC for A2B.
-12 PHRF is tough on the ole girl
This boat will be for sale at the end of June after a significant full refit.
Very exciting week for me. My newly acquired #39 gets launched this Friday after a stage two refit. I will spend the weekend getting her commissioned then we go sailing Monday and Tuesday of next week. First time sailing the boat for me, can't wait.
Interesting. What do estimate the build to cost excluding sails and electronics?
maybe Offshore Garage can build me one at a bargain price after the experience with yours :-)
