Ole 39 did a 40 mile light air race on the Chesapeake Annapolis to Solomons. Not exactly what these boats were designed for. We finished 3rd behind two sport boats then corrected to a distant last place. Fun event nevertheless.

One change I wish I had on my vintage is the much shorter boom. We are reefing the main in 16 knots of wind plus it takes a team of mules to get it to full hoist

The ole vintage Class 40's are still having some fun. Delivery #39 from Charleston to Annapolis.  Blowing like crazy or flat calm/fog. We had it all.

We will be racing with 4 on board for 3-4 days. I am thinking of adding a 8gph water maker (80#) and running the motor for one hour twice a day to desalinate. Any experience with this on a vintage class 40?

Class 40 has 700# per side as I understand it. The 1400 they are looking for in the Ker must be total

Very exciting week for me. My newly acquired #39 gets launched this Friday after a stage two refit. I will spend the weekend getting her commissioned then we go sailing Monday and Tuesday of next week. First time sailing the boat for me, can't wait.

Interesting. What do estimate the build to cost excluding sails and electronics?  maybe Offshore Garage can build me one at a bargain price after the experience with yours :-)

I did not notice the 40V2 in the race. Hot looking ride. What happened to cause them to retire?

With all the light air I suspected the J99 would close the gap.
