OK, what deck hatches do you like other than the solid aluminum USCG rated units?? Must allow light to pass thru, reasonably easy to open. Are there any options other than the Lewmar type?? Offhand I can't come up with a hatch that has any major extra strength than the Lewmar type.
Very interesting damage. Looks like roof structure was glued to deck, & glue lines failed entirely. Also 7 out of 8 deck hatches gone entirely - blown out by air pressure surges in hulls as they flooded?
That seems to be a 'panic button', (emergency stop or release) possibly relating to the gauge (?) just aft of it. maybe some one with better IT skills can reverse the pic & read the labels?
With the lack of hardware on deck, and the winches being inside where lines can only be routed to them from one restricted direction, setting and using the longeron as a mast would require advanced MacGyver abilities. However, the front sails conveniently stored on the tramp could easily been...
My WAG on oil spilled. Basic hydraulics: pressure is held between the valve & the cylinder. Opening the valve releases pressure. The cylinders probably also had nitrogen gas chambers to force them to extend faster when valve is opened. So volume of oil released would be based on: pressure in...
#2 - as has already been discussed by Estar, insurance will go UP for other cat owners, as insurance companies are going to lump all catamarans in the same risk group.
#6 - the use of those USCG services (along with the 42' cat and the Condor 40) may push the USCG to impose further 'safety'...
Well, no, it isnt on thier web page. As it shows up for me, there is no info at all on spar, rig dimensions, rigging type, anything. And to get a 'brochure' you have to request one on line. So they can check your credit rating??
You cannot compare GB 60 (and others) to the 55. Totally different boats & concepts. The safety/miles sailed record of one design does not transfer to a different design. Pheado may have survived better because of weather, stronger laminate sched, more roof protection, completely enclosed...
Wasnt it 'Rogue Wave' that was abandoned upside down & then found years later restored on a Russian lake?? Ruski ca[t came across it, hoisted it aboard, fixed it up & had his own personal Yacht!
OK, 2nd part of B/Y's statement is monohull specific. But for a multi, is most loaded position when weather hull just lifts clear of the water??? Surely GB engineer for that condition. Further heel reduces loading as the lever arm shortens. The concept of a 'fuse' is ludicrous, as is sails...
