That data is reliable, but it is not public. It is "inside" data from one of the largest boat insurers. Note: I happen to like multi's. But the facts are what they are, and the owners need to damn well understand what they are getting into.

As a big picture aside . . . . When you look at insurance loss rate data, multi's look really bad. . . . Double the hull/rig damage rate and 60% higher injury rate than monos. Multi's are just generally trickier and require more skill and care and quality control all around - in sailing, design...

You all will also remember the gb90 that almost did not make it to Bermuda, after it spilled all its hydraulic and engine oil in the bilge. Got to give that crew some credit for making port.

At least one major insurance company is right now considering not quoting/writing gunboats for passage making.
