You would think. However, there's still a couple engines, battery bank, galley stove (presumably with oven), and other heavy stuff aboard. I don't think "unsinkable" means forever.
Like Commanche? Much more complicated, much more "disruptive technology". Nothing broke, 2nd in their first race out of the box. Didn't even have to be abandoned. I guess we have to give GB a special pass, since they're a major ad space buyer.
OK. We won't judge speed by failures of disruptive technology. And we won't judge seaworthiness by a mast falling down and other problems resulting in abandonment. At what point IS it permissible to pass judgement on the GB55?
Yes. The lifeboat in the video was highly manuverable, and easily pulled alongside the ship. The trouble they had was hooking the davit falls up, which of course needn't be done with the RIB. Also, those sea conditions were worse than in RM's case.In short, between the freighter, RM, and RIB...
My former boss would run his Lagoon all the time on one engine, without a problem. Obviously not while trying to come alongside a freighter in a 25 knot Gunboat gale, though.
Using the RIB to transfer crew makes perfect sense, I have no idea why they didn't do that.
A Laser sailed the Everglades Challenge last year (325 miles from Tampa Bay to Key Largo). The guy was doing a fine job, but ran aground so many times in Florida Bay the DB trunk finally split. Had to drop out about 15 miles from the finish. There is a woman on a Sunfish entered this year. A...
Not really. Be carefull with the runners and they stay up. They come down with last minute jibes and crew gets careless. I haven't dropped a rig, even though I've lost an upper shroud. But I'm fairly light for a Star, not very competitive when it's over about 8, so more than that I'm more...
Webb Chiles sailed an open 18' lugger around the world, I think sailing a Star to Bermuda would be much easier. Yes, I've sailed Stars, as helm and crew. Have competed in the Western Hemisphere Championships and the European Championships. I have no inclination to do it, comfort level is...
