I heard one of the boats under 30' without pros spent $60k. So, yes, definitely on the plus side of $50k, unless you already spent the money on sails because you did TransPac recently.
I am totally lost here. From above I've learned that protesting is bad, but cheating is okay. Weird. But here is where it gets weirder... Two J/125's. Run what you brung, heck with ratings? Hamachi did cross the line ahead of Rufless. We're all clear on that, yes? So... The answer is...
Thanks Hitch,
That was a really good race for us. As in, not too windy, which wouldn't have been so great. A few notables:
We sailed 300 extra miles, but kept moving well the entire time. Only 3 more miles than Pyewacket though. Made for a very pleasant race. We basically sailed down to...
Rufless was weighed in June just after us. They said it weighed “9500” pounds. What I can’t say is if that weight was used for their rating as it was late in the game for an ORR rating for Pac Cup.
More fun with numbers... Everyone has a rating now, based on the same "method". I "think" it is TCF, which I "believe" is PHRF DW converted to Time on Time, and called TCF.

Here's the fun part. Our rating compared to all of the the Monday/Tuesday...
I agree as well. That said, the overall trophy is awarded after throwing everyone into the same system (PHRF DW). There is also a trophy for best ORR and a separate trophy for best PHRF (from the M/Tu starters).
In 2018 Prospector won the overall trophy, but they did not win their division...
All doublehanded boats have been PHRF for quite some time, maybe always. At least back to 2014 when we raced our J/120. Condor and War Pony raced that year too and we were all PHRF.
You are correct that for fully crewed boats that anything faster than about 50 PHRF (J/120ish) races ORR...
Fun with ratings... After our weigh-in YRA updated the ratings page and our rating went down (faster) 9 secs/mile. Today I received a certificate that is 7 secs/mile higher than what is shown on the website. Color me happy, because we just won 4 hours, but it is curious that the ratings page...
Yes, except that bulge shows up on Sunday, 6 days from now, on both models, and has been showing ever since the models have provided a forecast for Sunday. We shall see...
We've had 3 different boats weighed for Pac Cup. All have been done by the same person, with the same load cell, and always a single point lift. I don't see any issues there. Not all boats were weighed with this method though. All were done using some form of certified method, but not all...
DH boats are still PHRF with the downwind rating. As long as the boat is weighed and measured it is eligible for the overall. Pretty sure they apply the PHRF downwind rating to all of the boats to determine overall.
Oh Pac Cup. Or I should say, YRA. We had our boat weighed on Saturday. 9573. Brochure is 9300. So, you would think our downwind rating would go up from the base we were assigned before the weigh-in. Incorrect. We are now 9 sec/mi faster. Sigh. I know in the past YRA has said, the base...
It is amazing how hard it is to get to the start line for this. A year ago we had 91 entries and a waitlist and now we are down to just 69 boats. I thought for sure, with the cancellation of the 2020 race there would be bigger numbers this year, but it didn't happen. I know a bunch of boats...
Certainly seems like the hardest part, as it often is, is getting to the start line. This is year is definitely no exception. In particular, insurance, and the cost of shipping have really put a damper on some plans. We are sticking to our plan. Heading down the coast around June 10th.
