    Curious Double Fatality at Sea

Sad story. Am I the only one that is considering foul play? Odds that it was two people killed by some mysterious malfunction seem like the less likely scenario. What's the motive? They didn't get the boat. If the owners were complete jerks, they were only days from getting off. On another...

    Can I tap that? (Fiberglass)

Geez, anyone else use tee nuts? Never used rivnuts, but they look interesting. Looks like they are a pain to remove, where you have to be careful NOT to remove tee nuts.

    Fiberglass supplies new Annapolis

Donovan Marine has coosa. The stuff is great. Use epoxy though, sticks to polyester better than polyester.

Thanks to all, I think, with all this information, I'll be able to get it working.

Connecting Airmar ST 850 to NMEA 2000

It looks like I should have a  DST 810SF NMEA2000. I looked at the Nexus NX2 server manual, it doesn't have a speed input. It just has depth, log, compass, and wind. So would a Garmin GND10 even work for me. If it could work could a "KC-2W NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 converter" replace the Garmin...

Connecting Airmar ST 850 to NMEA 2000

I got this  Airmar ST 850, I thought I could connect it directly to my NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183, but I apparently need a box in between.  I have a Garmin GPSMAP 740 and a Nexus  NX2 Server, but cannot find any information on how to connect these things together.  This file shows wiring...

I need Boat Speed but this is mostly a NMEA Question

Simon GH is right. My mission is the 2023  Bermuda 1-2. Not really concerned with log as much as speed (don't care if it is accurate, just need know the change). The GPS is the real Log. I am not looking forward to another 2 inch hole in the bottom. Yes the V60B sends AIS data over NMEA 2000 to...

I need Boat Speed but this is mostly a NMEA Question

I need Speed and Depth and would like temp, should I try to find an NMEA 0183 paddle wheel / transducer, or get a bi-directional Converter.  I have: Garmin 740 plotter    NMEA 2000     Nexus NX2 Server and instruments NMEA 0183     Pelagic Tiller Pilot  NMEA 0183     B&G V60B VHF with...

    Storm Sail for S2 9.1

I really thought this would be a simple solution for the solo sailor in 30+ knots of wind. Instead of 20 minutes on the foredeck hanking on a headsail, and then putting on a trysail, I could just sit at the mast and put this sail on. Anyway, I have to listen to you guys. While we are on the...

    Storm Sail for S2 9.1

Zonker Thank you for all of your effort. And I am sorry for being such a stickler on the babystay idea. My whole idea for this is survival mode not to use if I wanted to keep racing. I never intended to have the main up at all wile using this storm jib on the babystay. And it looks like the...

    Storm Sail for S2 9.1

Baby stay is 16' 5" from mast attachment to the deck. The attachment to the deck is 27 inches in front of the mast. The stay that toddster mentions goes to the aft bulkhead of the anchor locker. I do have that also. It is 27 feet from mast attachment to deck. I am wanting to use the baby stay...

    Storm Sail for S2 9.1

I was going to measure the baby stay this afternoon. I an not sure that it is even 16 feet long. In the meantime there is this: https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/s2-91

    Storm Sail for S2 9.1

I was in the southern Chesapeake May 29, I had 30 - 35 knot north winds.  I had my second reef, I couldn't advance north because of constancy rounding up. Best I could do was beam reach with main WAY out and still rounding up occasionally.  I hope to do the Bermuda 1-2 in 2 years, so I need to...

    Storm Sail for S2 9.1

I have a S2 9.1 which has that baby stay 2 feet forward f the mast. Can I or should I use that for a storm sail. It seems that the sail would be at the center of balance with some of the sail forward of the mast and some behind. I also think that the boat would be balanced when heaving to. The...

    Bermuda 1-2

I say go west now, stay west because there will be no wind east of Bermuda come Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Of course not for the Class 40's. BTW where are the Mini 650's? Do they have a bigger badder race to do?

    NMEA 2000 Question

I don't know what I did wrong, But Sassafrass is probably right with the shielded cables, etc. So I have ordered cables,  the Maretron Micro connector. Another hole through the bulkhead and twice the cables will be going to the plotter. Thanks to all for your help.

    NMEA 2000 Question

That was a lot of help. I will check out some things tomorrow. The meter I have is a 1980's analog device so I really don't know if I had 5 ohms or 50 ohms , 500, or 5000. I really should get a digital one. I am sure Amazon will be happy to send me one. Thanks for your help.
