That is some spectacular thread drift! Dunnies to rudders. I don't care.

This depends on how you do the math: Less flushing water, because there is less to flush. Like using TP, how much do you use? In many cases the volume is very similar. I measured the flow of both, to see.

I searched YBW for "bidet + composting" and came up dry. Many conversations re. bidets. I've followed a lot of threads over the years, and this is unusual. A subset of a subset.

    a. I think the smallest sump pump will be more reliable. Pee can generate some flock/solids after it sits for a while and ferments. And no matter what the "sterile" crowd says, pee left for a week or more, and re-inoculated as it will be in any manner of sump that is not cleaned every few days...

    Installing a composting toilet.

Jeez we're off topic, and heading in a useless, non-sailing direction. Rants are fun of course, and this is the place for them! ---- On another forum (I think) someone floated the idea of using a bidete with a composting toilet. No TP, which is helpful. Somehow get the bidete water into...

You see a bad thing, but it does NOT strengthen your argument. You do you.

It's not that you are not 3 miles from anything. The Chesapeake Bay is regulated as inshore by definition and falls entirely withing the 3-mile limit. For example, the Chesapeake Bay is inside the 3-mile limit in its entirety and is the state waters of Virginia and Maryland. However, the Puget...

It will only come up if you are anchored or on a mooring for more than 2 days. A pump-out is required and there are no exceptions. Just passing through they will never ask (I am local too). As a practical matter, only if you are on a mooring run by the city. 15.06.090 - Vessel toilets...

Wrong. It is illegal in Annapolis. And not because the harbor master wants to pump more poo (I've spoken with her several times). The problem is a handfull of sailors that dump their bag in the wastebaskets at the dinghy dock, creating a mess. If they had taken them to the dumpster there...

Not that bad. Put the TP in to start, and then you can change if her view changes. If not, you're still OK. I put the TP in. If I separate it I can go more than twice as long... but it works either way.

A marina is not an emergency. They probably have pump out, and if they don't there are shore-side facilities. I did not mean to imply that gross behavior is acceptable. What I meant was discharging someplace that passes the "red face" test but perhaps not the 3-mile test (which is a number...

I really don't get the < 15 gallon holding tanks. Mine is 30 gallons. And honestly, most places you can just "pump" if it is an emergency. I wouldn't stress about it. I do follow the rules as much as practical.

OK. But it will still splash with the cover in place, I'm pretty sure of that, and I'm not cleaning it up. Use a bottle if sitting is too hard. Re. vinegar, you might try citric acid or Nilodor. They work better with less odor. I tried them side-by-side, just sharing. Nilodor is best by far.

No, you cannot do that with ANY head on a boat underway. Real sailors sit, and the standers get assigned to cleaning the head. Even if your aim is good, the OGO bowl is very shallow and there will be splash from a standing position. Additionally, if you do that it will stink like a public...

Re. Cleaning. A spray bottle of something for the urine funnel is smart, for odor from the funnel and the urine tank. Citric acid (5% for the spray, a few ounces of powder in the tank) does a good job of both. Nil Odor Urine Digestor is also very impressive.

Excellent post. Thank you. As for bathroom language, only when it adds clarity. a. Cleaning with liquid into the desiccation chamber is a non-starter. Well, a fan will help dry, but it is a really bad design or operation decision in my experience. b. No, with a good chute design there should...

All of the composting/desiccating heads have fan options. It always helps, but some don't really need it, depending on use.

    a. The secret of clumping litter, for cats, is that it separates the urine from the poo, because they don't hi the box the same place. That reduces the odor. And you can remove the pee. b. You can't compost clay-based little. It's just a mess. It clumps when wet.

And if your guests can't use a marine head correctly, what do you expect to happen with a separating head? This is the reason that the park service has never adopted them--they are not used properly.

    a. If you use the proper paper it is nearly impossible to clog a head. When wet, it just falls apart. The culprits are typically paper towels, facial tissues and flushable wipes (which aren't, even at home). Do NOT keep facial tissues in the head and keep a stack of zip lock bag for everything...
