    GGR 2022

Still 4000+ miles, holes/high pressure, doldrums, possible breakages and the North Atlantic to contend with. Don't think I'd call anything just yet.

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 3: Capetown to Itajaí, Brazil

What a mess. More boats going west than east, only one headed in the “right” direction.

There is no handicap. YB tracking has had some issues, was probably got rebooted. Most likely the tracker is pointing toward the wrong waypoint as it is showing negative VMG for the leaders which is clearly false.

Don't think Donnie will let another one hit the rocks.... But who knows. I was really hoping Abhilash and Kirsten would duke it out up the Atlantic. I admit I am routing of Kirsten but think its less compelling for her to win if the next competitor is hundreds of miles away with a trail of...

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 2: Cabo Verde to Capetown

Perhaps trying to stay in the pressure, perhaps also working something else out. If you believe windy a bit more pressure to the south so there is that. Lottery getting across that high.

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 2: Cabo Verde to Capetown

So close, probably anyone's race yet Maliz seems to be in a good position here. Excited that the racing is close. Should be fun to see how it ends with the high. Not an easy ride into CT. Will be interesting in the S Ocean as well. Wondering if we will get to see a boat or two go on a flyer at...

Maybe not a question you want to ask.... Looks like the snails are going to be in the path of a large low a few days out.....

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 2: Cabo Verde to Capetown

With the top 4 finishers routed to be about 2 +/-hrs apart I'd call that "too close to call". Interesting. I certainly understand using the generic IMOCA setup in the routing but wondering if at some point during the race the differences in boat/foil design and/or sail inventory will become...

Via GGR Facebook: ENTRANT UPDATE: 🇬🇧 GGR 2022 - Simon Curwen has officially declared CHICHESTER CLASS and is heading up the coast to a port of refuge. Steering trails to sail downwind in moderate weather have proven difficult and to reduce risk of storm exposure through slow sailing, he will...

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 2: Cabo Verde to Capetown

Bit of a difference between navigation vs tactics. I’d say whoever is driving at the time needs to deal boat to boat position, shifts, precise timing on gybes, etc. That is tactics.

    GGR 2022

Well if there is a solution, Simon certainly has the lead enough to work it through. That said seems he had diverted already so might be he's given up. If he is out, the last thing of interest becomes the race between K and A. I'd put my money on K, she has the right boat within the rules and...

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 2: Cabo Verde to Capetown

Production was a bit lacking, this is the "view" of the start. I like Sam, she know IMOCA's and the TOR. At this point it is what it is, afraid this may be the last one OR.

It really should be the last GGR but there seems to be a line forming for the next one.

    GGR 2022

Simon no doubt has his shit together, knows how to push his boat and therefore is well in the lead. Cannot blame Kirsten for being frustrated however. The condition her boat needs to really haul (if you can say that with any of these boats) are below a very arbitrary line. Other than that it's...

How about a The Ocean Race thread?

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out: "For Holcim-PRB, their tactics had worked but they now had some damage to their mainsail which had been torn close to the luff after the clew of the jib had punched through the sail during a tack. Fortunately, the slightly more settled...

How about a The Ocean Race thread?

Last edition of this race was pretty fun to watch. V65's weren't as sexy as the V70's but it was close one design sailing, came right down to the end.... Seemed the move to IMOCA's was supposed to increase entries but that backfired. Not sure it's going to be as interesting with 5 boats (pre...

    GGR 2022

At this point looking like this rally is going to be a boat parade with no real passing opportunities save breakages. The no sail zones and drops really limit the tactical options.
