    The Merits of a J9

FWIW, yesterday I singlehanded praxis from the Oakland estuary to the SF waterfront and back, with main and jib in 6-12kts. I had the simrad tiller pilot engaged the entire trip and made course adjustments from the B&H display, sitting safely and comfortably near the companionway on what was a...

    The Merits of a J9

Happy to give some impressions after a few months of sailing praxis. On the two-winch (only) design decision - as I read somewhere (I think from J boats), the preferred sheeting angle of the jib is best accommodated by cabin top winches, and this certainly seems to be the case from my...

Yes, hope to join a couple races this year, more next year. Waiting on PHRF and getting to know the estuary.

    The Merits of a J9

Posted a video - sailing praxis on the bay with my teenaged crew (er... sons) last week. Only their second time on a keelboat but their dinghy sailing skills transferred pretty easily to sailing a J/9. Overall quite happy with the boat and its performance.

Some more pics of praxis.  Had a brief motor and sail to check out systems and so far so good.  Pleasantly surprised by how well the simrad autotiller steers (to compass or wind) and talks with the B&G instruments on the boat.

    The Merits of a J9

That's paint, not a wrap.  I happened to be in HNL last year just after all the transpac boats had arrived and in the yacht harbor.  I kept looking at that blue boat (BadPak) and that boat was, in part, the inspiration for my color choice.

Another blue boat already in CA, then.  Neat.  Mine should be arriving toward end of Feb or early Mar with a J/99.  Can't wait to meet her.  :)

Thanks, Bahama blue.    J boats offers a torqeedo pod drive on this boat.

    The Merits of a J9

Pretty much sums up why I chose a J/9 (except the teenage love part... although I do have two teenagers so maybe I need to keep an eye on them around this boat).  Been around the water my whole life but took up sailing only a few years ago.  I wanted a simple boat that I will use regularly with...
