I really liked my old Harken dry bag. Super light, and two compartments for wet gear and dry gear. They don't seem to be around anymore... any good alternatives? Most of the bags I see out there look too damn heavy!
Man, I still remember the threads from the perspective of the cone and the M24 (or was that an M32 v. The Cone). The good old days...
Good to see the good old days are still sort of here - where you're not sure if someone is shitposting or actually as stupid as they sound. Personally, I would...
I finally broke down and got a Vantage MIPS helmet... I actually prefer to wear it over a beanie and goggles.
Anywho, icecoast fucking blows this year.
I'm not aware of any significant V15 fleets at the 25 year mark... I sailed buzzards bay in one back in... 2007? I think there were around 20. They had a little pocket in Newport for team racing as of 2013 at least. I'd see them at various clubs around the east coat but most looked pretty sad...
Eh... there has been some staying power from at least some boats. But yeah, it is an ever diluted pool. For some reason (money I guess) you can watch fleets explode in leadboats (Eg. melges 24, J24/J70/J.....) and then fade out to be generally well supported local fleets, but then in dinghies we...
I might be up for that for a time or three, I'll shoot you a PM. Can't commit to regular though.
If the JR has any questions about the 29er let me know. The information I have is probably outdated and misremembered, but it's still my favorite dinghy I've sailed.
Speaking personally, I moved away from the water (ish) and the ability to feed and care for a dinghy outstripped the time I had - compared to showing up and throwing several thousand pounds of lead around a race course on someone else's dime. I do miss the 29er a lot, and since I never grew up...
why the fuck would the M15 be in the same discussion as FJ/420? Gonna go wreck some 13yo's when a boat designed for +350lbs powers up in 14kts? Ooooh, maybe you mean college? Yeah I see colleges springing for powered up boat to pay for that won't stand up to daily abuse and collisions as well as...
Ok the classics are all here, so let's play one that never fails to make me crack a small. The dude's got a sense of humor that comes through in the way he plays. Sometimes you hear him rip a solo and it's like - yeah... it's good... But it's also funny - in a wtf sort of way. Guitar Shop sort...
My hatred for these boats still seethes at piercing levels. Several years after I last posted in this thread I was coaching. I watched a 420 and a JY15 get in a fight. The 420 won. The JY, and the director who repaired the damn thing, lost.
I would absolutely rather teach learn to sail in a...
1) Ah yes... MY favorite passtime when I owned a 29er --- tracking down leaks. The drain bung is a solid choice to preemptively fix. The scuppers are also notoriously leaky - especially the single-piece ones from the original batch of boats. Worst place: centerboard trunk and deck-joint. If you...
