Agreed, In my experience all depends on the waters where you are sailing. We switched a few times in diffident geographies and always used a hard paint on our Cats. However, if you’re sailing around the world there is no right answer. We dove and cleaned our hull every few weeks in the tropics...
Ha, my life is a contradiction. :). When I say good weather, I mean good winds, few storms and not during the rainy season so that we can sail and not have to hang out in the cabin.
We ruled out the NW passage for cold temperature. But, we did think Antarctica could be fun. However in the end...
Yup, I’ve done some of this already. We built 2 boats in Valdivia, Chile and really like the area. Unfortunately, we were not able to go south due to delays and weather. Lake District is very nice.
Pretty high on my list and helpful to take the Norwegian coast off my list. Thanks. I’ve always loved the Swans and Hallberg-rassy boats, especially for these area.
Maldives, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, PNG, Solomon’s? Any routes or places in particular. Kind of hard to learn more about such a large area. I asked the HH folks about cruising in SE Asia and he said owners tend to ship/transport their boats out and didn’t cruise much in SE Asia but...
We have decided not to purchase a cruising boat this year or next. Therefore, I am researching and planning our next small cruising adventure. If you could plan a 1-month (plus or minus) getaway anywhere on this planet, whether you have been there before or wish to go, where would it be?
Here...
If you get a chance to stop at Taou, you need to meet Valentin and Gaston (assuming they are still there) who live on the island, provide the moorings, and serve a lovely dinner but not every night.
The Balance wasn't at the show, so we didn't do the research. I do think they are significantly more expensive.
I'm still disappointed with the rear helm positions and not having a forward cockpit in the new boats until the HH52 comes out. I was on a Catana 50 doing a test sail in 2010 and...
I spent 5 minutes in the HH50 and was unimpressed. Having said that, the HH52 with a forward cockpit looks like a winner if you're going to that price point.
Fwiw, we saw a few of the new build gunboats at the Outremer factory tour. The 80 looked incredible. I asked why they don't market that brand much and the response was a puzzling expression. Then he mentioned all the ones on order and their backlog. I suspect they are doing very well with the...
Yes, we are cruising sailors but have really enjoyed some regattas, so we were thinking maybe the ORC 50 would be perfect. However, we are cruising sailors, and I think it would be a little embarrassing/weird in the Fiji Regatta Week, running circles around everyone and then drinking cava and...
