At What Wind Speed Should The Canvas On A Docked Boat Come Down?

This is a “hero” or “zero” situation. If you remove canvas and it was not really needed, then you potentially wasted an hour. If winds are strong, you look like a hero. However, if you leave it up knowing damage could occur and said damage occurs….

100kg - what singlehander dinghies to sail?

I agree! The M14 is an extremely fun boat to sail.

Modern dinghy for Thursday night PHRF

Thanks! So basically, it looks like the boat would not be the limiting factor, but rather my sailing. This is just a fun night after work with a bunch of decent but low key sailors.

Modern dinghy for Thursday night PHRF

5'8'', 190 lbs, $10k. The M14 or Aero are more plentiful and likely have a better resale value down the road. I have sailed both and like them. Not too sure where the Evo is heading.

Modern dinghy for Thursday night PHRF

Even before social distancing, I was considering a single handed boat for low key Thursday night racing. Would a  Melges 14 or Aero be competitive against a mixed fleet of Lightning, Flying Scott, Capri 25, Colgate 26, and S2 7.9 flying spinnakers? Perhaps an occasional Finn.  In light air the...

    Beneteau First 14

I priced one in New Orleans last year, about $16k. My interest waned after that.

    Seascape D2 aka 14

Anybody have first hand experience with the Beneteau First / Seascape 14? Beneteau dealer in New Orleans has one in stock I want to check out. A bit pricy though- $15.5k with three sails.

do you think the melges 14 will catch on?

It is still a cool boat.

Harken 22mm traveler end control stop

Yes, this is a good idea. Newer Harken end controls have a bumper, item 10, part number  H-32054A in the manual: https://www.harken.com/uploadedFiles/Product_Support/PDF/4972.pdf Oddly, I can’t find this part either. Emailed Harken- will see.

Harken 22mm traveler end control stop

I thought of that. Will probably use 1/4 inch polyethylene board. Newer models have a different setup for the stop- two protruding cylinders where the screw holes are located.

Harken 22mm traveler end control stop

I need help finding a replacement piece for the stopper attached to the end control of a Harken 22mm small boat mainsheet traveler. The old piece pretty much disintegrated before I had a chance to take a picture of it in one piece. I can find the stopper piece that attaches to the car, but cant...

Urgent help about new membrane jib

I had a similar problem, but the sail was from a very knowledgeable sailmaker for a one design. I raked the mast back slightly and the jib fit perfectly. Not sure if this applies to you though.

do you think the melges 14 will catch on?

Interesting that KO sailing is listed as a dealer on the Melges site- thought they were RS central, esp for the Aero... https://www.melges.com/?p=pages/useful-links

    Noob advice needed

When in doubt, let it out...let the sheets out until the sails just take shape. Jib and main work together to balance the boat. Trim slightly and sail with the wind on your beam. Get some speed and tack (turn into the wind until the wind crosses the bow, otherwise known as the pointy end of the...

Vodka and Ambien use by a crew member

At least this didn't happen... A member of a fishing boat crew attacked his fellow crew members at sea with a knife and a hammer, killing one of them, federal prosecutors said.
