    Yeah sounds like you have the right idea. You may have furled your jib the wrong way, which puts irregular torsional stress on the wire. When furled up, the jib should exit on the port side (anti clockwise to unfurl). Additionally it is recommended to replace that wire (the one in the jib luff)...
