I owned a J70 for 5 years, mooring it "wet" every season and hauling it out for the winter. There was no racing scene in my area so it was just used for day sailing with friends. It was a great boat to improve my sailing ability. It would tell you if you did something dumb without throwing you...
Welcome to the experience of buying a new boat. Aspects of this industry really suck. I have bought two new boats from two of the leading brands and had terrible experiences. I was relatively new to the sport when I bought the first one and wanted to encourage the sport in an area that was...
I think Covid was a contributing factor to be fair and also some growing pains in the development between Beneteau and Seascape . Hopefully you won't have such experiences with your new Oceanis. I remember so well the excitement of tracking the ship and waiting for its arrival. Enjoy!
The link to the thread above tells most of the story. I visited Seascape in Slovenia last October and we discussed a new plan of action. They found another yard to carry out the work required and hopefully my First 27 will be returned to me in June as good as new. I am excited that hopefully I...
My experience with Beneteau dealers suggests that the quality of the operation is not a high priority for Beneteau. As for commissioning time needed, I am hopeful to get my boat back in a working condition in June, 2 years after it was originally delivered to me to my marina.
Interesting Lars Reisberg of No Frills Sailing fame has changed his mind. He was well on with his plans to buy a First 36 but has now completely change direction to buy a new(ish) rendition of the Omega 42 originally produced 50 years ago. Is that a great hull shape that can be dragged into the...
There are 49 pages in the Seascape 27 (First 27) thread. It's a boat that created a lot of excitement. But now its pretty quiet. Maybe overshadowed by the First 36. But little is mentioned about the real life experiences of sailing them. It would be good to hear from people sailing them. What...
I visited Ljubljana to discuss the issues with my boat and plan the solution. I was really impressed with the efforts being made to build the First 36. Virtually all in house by a passionate team . (As was the quality of the build of the First 27 which cheered me up.) Ljubljana is a little...
Great day today. Seascape have stepped up and sent my First 27 to a factory that seems to have the capability to fix it. It's been a long haul (almost 2 years) but hopefully we are finally on track .
Thanks. It has been a comedy of errors compounded by Covid. Murphy's Law has been in turbo mode.. I hope finally next season I will have a boat I can enjoy and more importantly be confident in its safety when I bring my friends and people seeking a sailing experience on board.
I was at the Seascape yard today to discuss the ongoing issues on my F27 and had the chance to see both the F27 and F36 in build. The build in the F27 is impressive but the build on the F36 is on a different level with most work in-house. And it's looks much bigger than a 36. The purchasers of...
I was at the Seascape facility today discussing the ongoing issues with my F27. Hopefully we have turned a corner on sorting them out. The tour of the facility was very encouraging though. They certainly go the extra mile to build a nice boat. Though the 27 is dwarfed by the F36 now...
It's been a long time since I posted. Mostly as I don't want to think about the 110,000 euros I have blown. Rest assured its still blown. Beneteau and Seascape continue to offer no practical support My boat is currently rotting away in a very humid marina in Qingdao waiting for spares. Its...
Well my Alpicool has been great so far... Not all Chinese stuff is crap... I wish my western washing machines and fridge freezers in my place in the UK would last as long and be as economical as my Chinese ones in China.
My boat is still away being fixed and registered so I cant tell you exactly but the fitted fore and aft pulpits and 6 stanchions are approx 50cm. They were specified in the original proposal as 60cm. Same as the SE 27 I believe. Yachting World commented on the low lifelines in its otherwise...
