Yup we had to stand by the drinks trolley who broke a rudder gudgeon in some challenging conditions. We ended up towing them most of the way to Port before handing the tow over to a bigger boat. Was a long night but once in sheltered water helped to effect a decent repair and set off at first...
And the first race of the triple series was completed on Saturday in light and shifty winds.
143 boats battled it out across all the divisions.
I was on the Elliott 1050 Kick this time after recently selling my own boat 'Rogue II' (dont know why just got an offer i couldnt refuse!)
We had a good...
Yeah I was 2 handed on a Sunfast 3200. Was a pretty nice race. ut as usual a very long beat back to the finish. The start and first day was very different to the standard race with a downwind start followed by a massive line squall/front that smashed us all with 40kts. First night was a good...
Update on the Ross 10.66 that I brought last year, had a lot of work done and a total rebranding. Was originally launched as Margaritaville in 2003, now ROGUE II (the name goes along with the theme from our 2 year adventure sailing our beneteau 50 'Rogue' down from france to NZ as a family 3...
I just brought the Ross 1066 Margaritaville. More of a cruiser racer which appealed to the wife a lot more than the motorboat and the shallow draft (2.25m) means that we can keep it on our mooring up the weiti river outside the house.
She's a nice boat. Built in 2003 by craig partridge in foam...
Another win for us on the Rocky taking the double line and handicap win.
It was an absolutely brutal day on the water with 2 reefs and #4jib all day. 10hrs bashing upwind in 25-35kts and big seas, then a very fun and fast ride home!
Sad news, the disco ball didn't survive the day....
Looking like a tough day on the water tomorrow for the SSANZ 100. Smaller boats have already been put on the short course.
Saturday: Northeast 25 knots gusting 35 knots but 30 knots gusting 40 knots about the Outer Gulf. Sea rough. Cloudy periods. Fair visibility in a few showers
Yup a great day out there. 178 boats which I believe is a record. My very first race in the new boat 'Rocky' and we won our division. It was generally quite light which suited us. Unfortunately one 8.5 trimaran didn't make it home after hitting the rocks off waiheke.
After party on Rocky was...
Did some miles on that boat.
That rig was a new high end Southern Spars rig that was fitted in sometime arpund 2008.
Pretty sure the main halyard was on the lock you describe with the tylaskas but the kite halyards had proper locks on them.
I remember putting the spinnaker pole right...
We just enjoyed 2 weeks cruising great batrier island with 3 kids in our 80k 1980s wooden 4kt shitbox. Pretty good consdering that we managed to smash a Kerr 40, welborne 42 wedgetail and many others on line in the coastal, beat clockwork (ex general lee) to white island and generally hand out a...
We have a pretty epic sound system on my boat. 6 Fusion Signiture range 8.8 inch speakers (4 outside and 2 inside) and a 12inch Sub. 2 amplifiers with a capacitor to give them a better power supply and a cooling fan for those nights when it runs hard.... All speakers have blue LEDs in them which...
Yup finished the great race. Pretty painful ending when we could literally see titanium finish a few miles ahead but with the turn of the tide and the wind shutting down we just couldn't get to the finish line. It was a long night of trying to do what ever we could to get there but in the end...
Yes its all starting to get real now. Been such a whirlwind Since we got back to nz in November. Boat has undergone a huge refit and is pretty good to go. Me and Damon on the other hand are pretty well underdone in our own prep. No sailing buildup, zero fitness(for the last RNI we had both done...
