You're going the fun way. Suggest going out the South Channel rather than the cut off (it adds like 20 mins to your trip, but is much more scenic).
No real reason to stop along the way - downhill, it's only a 6 hour journey. Once in Detroit - see if you can score a slip at DYC through...
Thanks, all for the encouragement. Turned out to be a piece of cake (even with our jury-rigged outboard strapped on the back). Had a nice downwind run from East Hampton to NYC (~18 hours). Full ride from East Hampton to Albany was a week. Stopped at:
- City Island (cat nap),
- Liberty Landing...
How would we know the population of boats that have considered doing the race but have chosen not to because of cost and complication and intimidation of safety equipment?
Races run this way make me not want to participate - even in a beer can, it's frustrating to not get flags/courses/horns/finishes correct. I think asking people to shape up is quite alright. I've done serious and beercan RC, and would not be offended to be called out if I was not on my game.
