thanks, and yes, agreed about loads. I don’t have a way of testing but I’d be curious to know what the “shock loading” is on this arrangement when the boat is on the trailer, and we hit a bump on the highway with the board suspended in the raised position.
The fun part of this project was...
Another thing I did that I thought was useful: Hard to tell from the picture, but I laid the second splice so the eye is 90 degrees from the other eye without any twist in the line, when under load; which is what is needed for the application. A small thing but removes one less opportunity for...
@estarzinger @climenuts Thoughy you’d be interested in the final product. After our exchange it occured to me that I had a length of New England Ropes 5 mm STS WR2 left over. This is their lifeline replacement product, SK-78 dyneema with a dyneema cover. I thought it might be ideal for this...
@estarzinger Many thanks for all of this. The loads won't be anything close to needing 7/16"...I'd just bought line sized to the turning block I'm using. I think I'll try 1/4" with a couple of nice closed thimbles and a 45x bury eye splices. It should be fine going through the block with...
Hmmm that's an interesting thought. The pennant does have to go around a block though, which might make a loop challenging. After posting I was thinking I may be able to use a smaller-diameter rope, which reduces the bury length...need to get an idea of the loads involved although I can't...
Presenting a dyneema splicing conundrum for the experts here: I need to make a centerboard pennant for my boat, and bought a length of 7/16 Dyneema. The pennant will only be about 24" long, and will need to have an eye splice at each end around a shackle and a thimble. The short length doesn't...

The fact that Harbor Freight is now selling sextants somehow seemed relevant to this thread.
I believe that is post #1234 on this thread, from April 26. You can see the boat list in the drone shot when a few crew members gather on the rail. Some conversation about whether the list is exacerbated by Seeker being aground at the time…
I sailed Core Sound in my "little boat" (Welsford Pathfinder) last summer, in company with 5-6 other dinghy sailors. We camped the first night on the beach inside Cape Lookout. Next morning we sailed to Shackleford Banks, going inside and dodging the sandbars, but our "chase boat," a MacGregor...
I crewed with Ajax when he was racing. I will say that he had the courtesy to only yell at the sailors aboard his own vessel. He did call me un-Corinthian several times, but in his defense I was very likely doing something un-Corinthian at the time, such as drinking all his beer while not paying...
Caught a decent size bonito bringing my buddy’s Caliber 40 up from Fort Pierce to Annapolis in June. Two bites first day out of port, then nothing for the remainder of the passage, and we trolled pretty much anytime it was daylight.
The gust front on an Oklahoma thunderstorm can produce 40+ knots right quick for short periods. Not nearly enough ground tackle for that weight and windage.

Much smaller boat but these little blocks were perfect for my lazy jacks if you’re using small enough line. Much simpler than using a regular block with a leather chafe cover, etc.
