Not a movie, miniseries - Mare of Eastwood. Kate Winslet is amazing, 7 episodes and one of the best ever. The entire cast and production all first rate.
Watched 1917 last night, read the comments from last year, have to agree about a couple of scenes especially the river one really being a stretch in reality. Overall? A great story, triumph over adversity while addressing the horror of war. Gets a thumbs up from me.
Saw this today with SHMBO - zero expectations and zip of what was about. Really enjoyed it (am a mystery fan), casting was excellent and plot twists and turns never stopping. Daniel Craigs southern drawl was most unexpected.
So SWMBO drug me to Rocketman, empty theater, sound was rocking concert LOUD which really worked. Lots of background, early development, relationships, how he and Bernie hooked up, etc. The most interesting revelations were how much of his songs reflected his life. I was a musician years ago...
So, haven't seen the movie nor a trailer so know nothing about it but in my experience the shape of water is flat unless the wind is blowing and then it's kind of wavy. YMMV
Another vote for The Big Sick. I went because, well, sometimes you just have to suck it up and go where she wants to go. It always helps when I have no expectations but the movie is very well done for all the reasons Chris mentions. I think I enjoyed it more than she did. weird.
