Agreed, but past shutdowns have made a mess of cash flow for contractors. I'm not worried about getting paid so much as being able to pay everyone else without creating a bottleneck.
Everybody is trying to get as much invoicing into the fed systems and drawn down as possible right now. It would be interesting to see how much more activity the ASAP system is getting this week compared to others.
The US exports inflation without needing to "print" other currencies just fine.
In some cases there's already partial payment for projects. I've got work coming up that can only be done during the winter, supplies already purchased. If there's a shutdown, the window for that work will pass and it'll have to wait for next year. Depending on how it's funded, the originally...
