In the video in question the MSG sentry did it by the book. Salutes to VIPs are commonly not returned, so the drill is to hold it for a 3 count after the VIP has passed to be sure the VIP doesn't suddenly decide to return it a tick late, in order to avoid the awkward condition of accidentally...- Mark_K
