I would say all the boxing, wrestling and judo athletes at the games who are over 200 lbs have high levels of fitness. (Maybe some of the massive wrestlers wouldn’t seem all that fit - but I am not telling them) Should they limit those sports to people under 200 lbs? I would also say all the...
Here is the qualification process. Grab a coffee…

Nice photo of Finns
I believe the zeros are there because the fleets didn't report. It certainly isn't perfect, but it looks to be reasonably representative of dinghy racing activity. I have not seen anything like it for any other country. It also shows the significant interest in boats people have never heard of...
So the halcyon days of US Olympic sailing coincided with a much greater number of dinghy racers - correct? And at the same time as the numbers started to drop, the UK and others developed better programs. Have I got that right?
Except that there was not a lot of interest in the US in dinghy racing during the years the US ruled the sailing medal count.
So what is the secret sauce that disappeared after ‘92? Do you think is more or the same interest in racing dinghies in the US today compared to 32 years ago?
Over the past several Olympics, the US has won very few medals in any of the mode of transportation events, ie boats and bikes (they have done ok riding horses). But way more than any other country in overall medals. When the US focuses, they usually win or seriously contend. There is simply not...
Well, the Finn and Europe aren’t Olympic classes any longer.
I have never kept up with 470 racing, but I am not sure if air humping adds to the Olympic ideal. Now that’s a way to keep tv viewership at bay…https://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2021/04/28/kinetics-at-the-olympic-level/
“Faster, stronger, higher, together.” I tend to agree the Olympic motto applies to the athletes and not the equipment. (Noting the potential for humour in at least two of these)
How many hundreds of articles do you want to read on parents fucking up kids sports? Google it up. Sailing parents are cream puffs compared to a lot of sports and activities. The Laser is to blame? Please…
"Your" goal? I believe you spelled IOC incorrectly. Name one Olympic sport where the bottom half of the qualifying competitors actually stand a chance of winning a medal (barring a Miracle on Ice...). And if you would remove your cranium from your large intestine for a brief moment, you would...
I don’t think the Laser/ILCA is cool. It’s just a boat that happens to be raced almost everywhere with used boats being awesome for the grassroots sailor. If “cool” is a requirement for Olympics, the 470 must go - it’s even older than the Laser. Looks like a bloated FJ.
