it is / was one particular to our navy the reason most floated was that it was unnecessarily distractive some navies its only done for the first encounter each day i would hazard that it has more to do with saluting within the sometimes tight confines of a warship is often a pita .. so why...- phill_nz

we have very clear cut rules about this if you are 1 / a currently serving member of the armed forces 2 / in service uniform 3 / wearing a service hat 4 / not on a ship you will salute all officers of higher rank and return all salutes to yourself if any of these rules do not apply at the...- phill_nz
