Your thoughts on sail wardrobe for bluewater adventuring multihulls?

jmh, sorry, been away sailing. Remembering everything is a compromise, this sail has more area than some Code 55 sails we do, it does overlap the shrouds and I believe does not have an inboard sheeted option so is less focussd at upwind. This sail has then been optimised for wider angles and not...

Your thoughts on sail wardrobe for bluewater adventuring multihulls?

JMH, as you describe is the widest range of options you could expect from one sail used like that is with say three different modes including a windward tacking option. The main challenge is the material weight and stretch resitance. If you have a sail that is strong enough to not quickly lose...

Your thoughts on sail wardrobe for bluewater adventuring multihulls?

Hi JMH, Yes I am with North Sails Australia. On this boat there is no issue as the geometry means the distance to the windward bow is longer. You can halyard up tight and furl in that position, the sail is cut to also fit on the bowsprit and pull up tight to furl. The HH 55 can taek thsi sail...

Your thoughts on sail wardrobe for bluewater adventuring multihulls?

The sail is cut to fit on the bowsprit.... it is a longer distance over to the bow as set in this image, plus being a Helix furling gennaker you hioust tight to furl and when running deep the luff is designed to project so you easea good .5m of halyard as can be seen in this image, .5m plus the...

Beautiful Boat- Pic attached of a 48 with the longeron extending forward, large yankee style genoa lives out there, and a North Sails Helix Furling Gennaker can be attached further forward with a top down furling set up, reasonably flat cut sail with small internal cable and three sailing modes...

THE IMOCA thread, single/double handed & TOR

This is a great vid for all the boats, but at 4:23 you can see Pip struggling with the keel to leward, then at around 6:15 she comes back into view going downwind trying to sort the J2, if the keel troubles continued that would have been quite shite, seems like by the time she got sorted she was...

    Older fast Aus multies

I designed those sails as a favour and handed on the files over to be built elsewhere. A few dramas from memory but they look the goods in those pics, Yes Huey, Tony does great work, with the old Riverside Oaks/ Dux Nuts being one of his best in my opinion especially given the period it was...

    Mighty Merloe

From my time on an Orma, the main issue was simpy that you could not motor to windward in anything over about 15knots even in protected flat water, you really needed a Rib to manage any tight manouvers without a dissaster.

Cruise, Day Sail, Race...? Why do you own a toy?

For all three reasons,Cruise, Day Sail & Race. I have been racing since a young age, sailing with customers and friends and had quite a long gap wihtout owning a boat of my own. I come into contact with so many people just sailing for the joy of it as you do MultiThom. I have to say although I...

    Mighty Merloe

timotheysski- My reference to sailing an ORMA was not on Merlo my dream boat it was my reasonably short time aboard the "Team Australia" boat, originally Banque Polulaire- we completed a record from Sydney to Auckland in 2 days 19hrs and a bit from memory. Our best 24hrs was 570NM also from...

Yep, spot on...as everyone knows, one of the best boats ever built. My favourite vid below, it is in flat water but shows the way this boat can sail. Having sailed an Orma in a proper sea at full pace for 3 days it is my favourite ever sailing experiance, but I cannot even see how single...

Hi Steel, sorry I missed this post, it is all custom for our boat. The beam sockest are molded off the already completed beam ends and then built into the boat. We then have carbon glue and bolted on plates that accept a thtreaded fork end, that is attached to a through bolted padeye. We are...

Thanks mate, they are the most similar boats on the course, we were able to get over and foward, call water for the gybe, call agin for the next Gybe as ended up in front and them, we then got the little gap we needed to get past the Farrier and be with the front two recovering from not my...

    9 M Trimaran in Australia

I believe it is a F9R, the lightest I know of ever built, Pete sails the boat extrmnely well, in the very narrow chanels he is very hard to beat being able to sail deeper angles and with good crew work. As he has mentiopned after the race that all changes in a breeze in the Bay with the faster...
