So I'm waking up from a what seems like a long dark winter, and here I am, relocated to Minneapolis. I'm renting a place for a year, while I figure out where to buy and where to escape for my weekends.
I think I've seen a few people mention that they are from the area. What's the sailing here...
I just tried a bajillion searches, but couldn't find the thread that had this discussion a few months ago.
Looking for a PFD for my 2 year old. I remember someone recommended an assym. design that wasn't uscg approved, but maybe nicer/better at flipping the lil' goof upright.
Any links or...
Two invitations to anyone that's around Chicago.
Every week, Tuesday evenings, one design racing.
We race Soling One Meters, a one design class with a relatively low cost. How else can you fit in at least 15 races after work? We race at Humboldt Park, which has free (& available) parking...
At the 0400 check in, Bruce's 4 hour average for speed is 3.2 knots. I didn't check any other GRIB's but the Vendee Globe site shows decent wind where he is.
That speed is slowest of the fleet, even including HelloMoto and Thomson / Hugo Boss for the same period.
Failure of some sort? Probably...
Looks like Nick Moloney and Conrad Humphreys have rafted together in the middle of the Atlantic:
"Throw me a bow line."

"So, you read Sailing Anarchy on Fridays, too, huh?"...
It's winter building time again...
Going into our third season, we are growing the Chicago fleet to race radio controlled Soling One Meters. This scaled down model of a Soling is the most raced radio controlled sailboat class in the U.S.
If you'd like to participate, the plan is to build...
By popular demand...
Looks like the entire fleet has gained distance on the leaders (Doldrums, I expect.) Bruce gained quite a bit, but then setback a bit in the last reading.
I'll be cleaning the chart up and making the colors a bit closer to the Vendee website colors tonight, and I'll try to...
So I'm watching the Vendee, but I get bugged that I can't remember which boats are gaining or losing. Sometimes the numbers run together from the previous day. So... here's a quick chart of what's happened so far.
If anyone knows of a website with this, I'll go there instead. On the other hand...
With apologies to the owners of the boat I've been crewing on... (They didn't want me to share this.)
So I've been working on a program for my cell phone that gives a better interface to near real-time wind info. Right now it has locations on Lake Michigan and one on Lake Huron: harbors at...
