    The perils of Race Committee

Had an enjoyable day on the water Saturday with my bride.  Our boat is out of commission so we ran the races for our club.  Then this happened.

    Rudder tube/bearing rebuild

We have a 1978 Lindenberg 26, with the original rudder.  Schedule 80 stainless pipe.  It has developed some play in the rudder over the years, initially treated with the West System method of waxing the shaft and injecting graphite reinforced epoxy into hole drilled into the rudder tube, which...

    You run into anarchists everywhere….

Saw the boat coming into the anchorage this afternoon and befuddled my wife and friends by stating, “I know that boat!  I bet it’s name is xxxx!”   Didn’t want to interrupt their day, but stopped by to verify.  My wife now thinks I’m smart.

Sailing opportunities St. John USVI 2/8-2/21

If we stay Covid free until 2/8, my decidedly better half an I are heading to St. John for two weeks in February.  Staying above Coral Bay, looking for sailing outlets.  I don't care what type of boat.  Sure, I can charter a windrider or whatever, and I will if need be, but I'd rather meet some...

How would an expert repair this carbon/foam tiller layup?

I am not an expert but love messing around with projects.  My latest one week into a month project is a foam/carbon tiller.  I shaped a foam laminate out of strips of Divinycell H60, used g10 tubing as ferrules for the attachment bolts, and planned ahead for the stuff I will have attached to the...

As there is no "Great Deals" thread....

Just wanted an Anarchist to benefit from a find.  I bought a Zeus 3 off him and it came quick and as described.  For a great price!  He has some other stuff available. Yes, they are links to a powerboat/fishing site, but I don't think these B&G stuff have sold only because they are not the...

    Anybody interface a Quark-elec NMEA2K/0183 with a SH GX2200 AIS VHF?

I have a Standard GX2200 radio with AIS capability.  I am trying to get the AIS data out via NMEA 0183 and into a Quark-elec A032-ais, to broadcast to my ipad running INAVX.  I have had good results getting my  data into inavx.  On the 2200, the AIS data is output at 38400 baud.  I do not care...

    B&G zg100 gps antenna placement

I recognize the b&G zg100 transducer should be able to see the sky for best reception.  Looking for personal experience regarding placement below decks.  I have windows in the cabin overhead I can mount this antenna under, but would like to mount it below deck.  I would like to avoid...

    Duck!

I wouldn't take my 44' stick under this bridge last summer.  Not worth the risk.  Can't believe someone thought this bridge was doable for this boat. https://outerbanksvoice.com/2018/11/11/catamaran-loses-mast-after-colission-with-umstead-bridge/

Awlwood? Anybody use that can review?

I have minimal exterior teak on my boat, but refuse to use Cetol again.  I have weathered teak now and have considered Awlwood MA for the toerails.  Anybody have some real-world experience?

Recoring foam core cockpit benches, what type of core?

I am going to be re-coring the cockpit benches of a boat that was originally cored with foam when built in 1977.  It has been neglected for several years and the benches are very soft.  You can hear the foam crackling when you step on the bench and there is significant flexing.   What type of...

Help me ID the part number for this sail slug

I am having a prefeeder/retainer made for my mainsail slugs. Boom is so high off the deck and with the sailfeeding slot ending 18" above the boom it's very difficult to flake the main correctly. I made an agrarian attempt but it's tearing the shit out of my webbing. The fellow that is making...

The daughter of one of my long-time crew is currently hiking and biking her way around NZ, and is looking for an opportunity to get on the water. She is based in Queenstown through the end of April. While her family has always had a boat, I would not call her an experienced sailor. She is...
