Looking forward to the invention of cleats in Canada

For most of the 20th century, Irish beer was a choice between Guinness and Guinness. (Or Murphy's in Cork). Non-stout drinkers had a choice of Harp (the most anemic lager outside of North America) or Smithwick's (an ale so devoid of character that it didn't even deserve a label). Nowadays...

    Repowering 1972 Albin Ballad

I have no experience of maintaining diesel inboards, and pray that the goddess will allow me to remain ignorant. However, I don't get why this wrong-handedness thing is a problem.   Surely if you have the wrong-handed prop, that just means that you have to engage reverse gear to move forwards...

Or rather, out of that particular boat. It sounds like another boat is in the plan.

    52.5' LOA motor sailer project

That looks a boat which could make good use of a gaff rig.  Low centre of effort, and optimised for offwind work, both of which suit the hull. But if the client wants pushbutton sails, I guess a gaff is a no-no.

Seeker is as much of a research vessel as Charlie Chaplin was an astronaut.

I think y'all being far too prescriptive. ;)   I am happy to support Doug in whatever form of demise he chooses for himself.

True, but if the project was redeemable then we would mis out on the fun of watching the frankenboat's journey to inevitable disaster

I assumed that some of his enablers had forked out. Y'know, Seeker being in the water proves that she is a complete success and the haters are completely wrong ... so time to invest in success

I think we all owe Doug a big round of thanks for creating so many deep flaws in this project. The relentless creativity of his follies has built a long list of ways in which the frankenboat is likely to fail.  That gives us plenty of scope to speculate on which mode of failure will be terminal.

Proud of my first wheel wrap.

Can't you guys use proper scientific terminology? The ISO-approved measurement for that length of string is "lots".

When doing the right thing risks widespread injury

I hope all agree on that proposition! (Except for the poor fishes who will then have to look at Sailing Yacht A. WILL NOBODY THINK OF THE FISH? :D  )

When doing the right thing risks widespread injury

That is one of myths floating around the blogosphere. Ukraine never had an independent nuclear weapons system, just a share of the Soviet nuclear arsenal.  So if it had kept nukes, it would have had to do a lot of work to establish independent control of them, if that was even possible ... and...

So, in a showdown between between two great powers, you consider the actions of only one of them.  Bizarre. I find it very amusing to be called "irrational and illogical" by someone whose idea of rationality and logic is to exclude facts which don't fit his ideology, and to consider evidence...

Ed, I don't go to PA because it is dominated by people like FKT, whose mode of "debate" is to hurl insults and deliberately lie about other people's positions.  Nobody learns anything from such brawls. Here are 4 key facts which are indisputable, and which disprove the claim that this crisis is...

Ed, I drink v rarely, maybe once every two months..  I never post under the influence. I provided sources for all my key points.  You in reply accuse me of "ignorance", without identifying a single point which you think I got wrong, let alone providing a source to support your claim.  Since you...

    What Yacht

I tin it was.  Same size and vintage as the Contessa 32, but less of a submarine and without such a pretty sheer.

My experience of Italy is that it laws and regulations are far from relaxed.  They re all-pervasive, prescriptive, and onerous. However, enforcement is often lax.  There are whole swathes of life where complying with the regulations would be spectacularly burdensome, and indeed often...

    Switched to Electric

Most of the cost is in the battery, so the only European budget EV is the Dacia Spring, which is cheap cos it has only a 27KwHr battery.   There are probably Chinese alternatives
