What you do with your money is your business. I get that. But I don’t get waiting longer on “broken promises and misdirection.” Why reward “broken promises and misdirection” with your money and patience? Why not call your local chandlery and see if they have something else available?

umm… You’re not going to drag them (Sailmon) into this? Three posts earlier you posted the screenshot of their delays email with a “Nobody escaped this.” comment…

MUCH MUCH MUCH sooner than March 10th? That’s less than three weeks away. Guys - I think I know what the first release is! It’s a time machine to turn back the clock to January 21, 2019 to stop Clockwork from starting this thread!

Yikes! It has the blotchy and inconsistent backlight of a cheap watch from the early 80’s. Either you’re due a warranty or this thing effectively has no backlight. It kind of looks like the is a Swedish Fish squished in there!

Same LCD. Got it. Different font. Different treatment on the glass. Your coating common on jewelry. Their etching is common on B&Gs. It doesn’t really matter who was first since both are out now. I’m not trying to spend money two years ago! Why is yours worth 30% more than Max?

You’ve been very careful to only talk about the font/characters/digits. Is that the only difference? Same hardware, different pixels?

Thanks! What do you mean by the quality/readability of your text?

Is landscape mode available? I like how SailMon Max’s default is landscape but I’m not so sure about their charging. How does the Atlas display compare with Max? Seems like they’re close in diagonal and pixels.

I agree with you that traveling to a new venue (Annapolis to Newport) or something like that would warrant a compass calibration. But a drive across town should not. From what you’ve said it sounds like the Max needs to be recalibrated after charging while traveling a short distance from home...

Is this one of those situations where the boat and house are hundreds of miles apart? If it’s a short drive, doesn’t that seem like an issue? There are tons of compasses that go a few miles from where they’re stored to where they’re used without needing to be recalibrated.

This is some serious thread drift but if Max is calibrated to counter its internal metals and receiving an inductive loop doesn’t generate a magnetic field, why does “it often want calibration”?

Using it while charging! Ha! You are silly. It is best practice to store compasses away from ferrous metals. We’ve known this for ages. Can someone smarter than me weigh in on induction charging and compasses?

100% agree on wireless data uploads! What’s the logging rate on the Max? The sealed aspect of wireless charging seems like a really nice thing. Does the wireless charging have any impact on the Max compass? Isn’t a big magnetic field how wireless charging works?

Is anyone logging faster than 1 hz?

What’s your experience been with the charging and logging? Saw something from US Sailing on new GPSs (atlas and Max):   Need to figure out what I should be asking Santa for!

High humidity killed one of these things? I’ll be sure to only use mine in a ziplock bag full of rice. ScowLover - when you sailed with it on this fatefully humid day was it salt water or fresh?

With a 320 x 240 pixel LCD do you think they can actually create those pages?

All it took to get a response for a warranty claim on a $1,300 bit of kit was 2 months and one SA forum post. Nice! I’ll take one and charge me double!

Those look like the same LCD and in both cases it looks much grainier than the nice clean digits advertised online. Gotta love truth in advertising. That aside it looks like the one on the right has some antireflective treatment that the one on the left doesn't. The left one also has a bunch of...
