For street food, get yourself some takoyaki (octopus in fried batter) anywhere there's a stand. You'll recognize them by the array of hemispherical fryers in which they turn the cooking balls...
We routinely do "breakfast for dinner" at my house. It also makes for a great boat meal, though the bacon smell does permeate everything for a while. Whether that's a bug or a feature is in the nose of the beholder.

Seriously, they're less bready than corndog/cornbread batters and tend to use a coarser ground cornmeal but you're essentially correct in that they're a ball of corn-based batter that's deep fried.
