It's an awesome result and I think has the potential to really shake up what small boat offshore sailing looks like.

Congrats! I take back all my skepticism ;-D

There's one in the UK (Jester) - no ISO Category or STIX recorded under IRC but an SSS value of 16 (OSR Cat 2 requires at least 28 for grandfathered boats), so feels pretty far off. Not something I'd want to do a Fastnet on! You need an inboard engine for OSR Cat 2 anyway.

Pre-95 boats are grandfathered on various criteria so you do see small older stuff (eg 1/2 tonners, Contessa 32), not sure about an Impala though. Weighs a lot - IRC displacement / length ratio is around 210 versus a J/92S at c. 180 or a J/88 at c. 145 which I think implies an IRC certificate...

Getting stability certification will be key & it's not just STIX of 32+. Older versions of ISO 12217-2 prescribed a minimum sailing weight (in the AVS calculation) for Category A of 3,000 kg although that seems to have been superseded by a minimum righting energy calculation. My armchair...

That was for sure one of the boats I had in mind when making the statement (not that I've ever sailed one and I don't think many made it here to the UK).

The X2 is OSR Cat 2 compliant though, so not a fair comparison. There is no shortage of coastal 30'ers that weigh <2 tons if that's what you want.

How do you get the hull out of the bottom mould - does it come apart or do you have to slide it out backwards?

Looks like a nice alternative position for the kite sheet (assuming it plays nicely with the mainsheet) and would stop the usual solo problem that you have to choose between (i) hand steering to a fixed kite trim and (ii) trimming to the pilot's driving.

Interesting, thanks. Can you fit a quadrant on the stock (drum) to connect a pilot on this system or are you stuck with tiller pilots?

I wonder whether it's a Delrin bush system (i.e. no balls) rather than a Jefa self-aligning job. They mentioned that they were machining a new set.

The Ran FAST40 treatment of this issue looks a bit smarter to my eye (not that that's a boat with any plans to go offshore). I suppose it's easier if you are only racing W/L and don't need the ability to reach with the jib eased. It would be relatively simple (and potentially a good idea) to...

Is that price a NZ special or is it really shaping up to be over €200k / £175k taxed and delivered?

@Hans Genthe now we are back on track and talking about the P30, can you comment on what STIX, RCD/ISO category etc you expect the boat to get and whether it’ll be eligible for races like the Fastnet? I remember reading somewhere that 3 tonne displacement was a magic threshold for all this...

"a fellow from Texas can tell the difference between grass roots and AstroTurf" I'm not from Texas, so it's pretty hard for me to distinguish between a disguised ad (that should be paid for) and someone connected with a project contributing to a forum users' discussion (which is really...
