Wilderness 30 Prototype For Sale - Sunflower

I think you're thinking about Skip Allen's Wildflower, a Tom Wylie design he scuttled on the return trip after winning the 2008 Singlehanded Transpac.

    Winds north of San Francisco

My google failed, but I recall a harrowing tale from Steve McCarthy about losing a cruising cat on that stretch of coast. As I recall, everyone survived except the family dog.

I think this is one of those times where a short email or phone call before the race would have made everyone happier. As I hear it, Ruffles decided they'ed rather spend their vacation vacationing rather than litigating, and believe they would have won the protest on merit. Perhaps they would...

It was sad to see it leave RYC, but good to see it being used the way it should be. They sailed a great race. Crazy that after 3 days their fleet had a 300 mile north/south spread.

nothing as sad as coming up on watch the next morning and still seeing the Farallons. If I remember right, the tail end boat-a wetsnail 32, ended up sailing through the eye of the hurricane that just missed Hawaii that year

Was that you driving 45, taking pictures down 1 this afternoon? :cautious::LOL: I'm intrigued by where CruzSea Baby and the Cal 40's are today, but if I could pick someone to be on the race course right now, I'd choose Foamy. I hope those up north can thread a line south in the next day, but...

I can understand you reasoning, but I don't think historical Pac Cup results support your theory. The most frequent DH winners are Ex27's and M24's, both boats with strong enough fleets that if anything, they're penalized by PHRF. I don't think forcing everyone to a measured rule makes sense...
