    Shaw 650s for Switzerland

Happy to say we have sent out our first 2 Shaw 650s to Europe which will be arriving in Switzerland in a few weeks; the first with more to come in the near future :-) Now we start work on the next few 650s, and the 550, which has a new CTech rig all assembled with a target to launch in May...

Top of the Gulf Regatta Thailand 2012 - images

Good chance to race under the Aussie SMS system with the largest (by Thai standards) sportsboat fleet seen in several years racing out of Ocean Marina *(6 actual sportsboats). 3 Shaws had a showdown with the Welbourne DSS equiped 25, Phuket 8 and a T650...unfortunately the Elliott 7, T590 and a...

T Hooks with an eye instead of a swage?

We are going away from using swages for everything, and want to run checkstays using a system with a lashing or splice to an eye, however it seems we cannot identify offhand the supplier for the part. It is a T hook for rigging, but ending in an eye rather than a swage, meaning you can lash or...

Production Shaw 650 - First Sail!

OK, as the other thread is kind of full of the dramas of production, this is the new thread for the new production Shaw 650. Moneyshot, the first production Shaw 650 built in New Zealand recently reached Westhaven Marina. A repeat of the other thread: the boat looks a bit like this:

Bit of fun on a sportboat - Pattaya girly action video

When we sail shorthanded (3 people instead of 4) just for fun we thought we'd try a wire. Bit of 2 sail reaching and then we popped the kite. No wipeouts; not too bad considering the guy in the red shirt on the main had not sailed since he was 12! Nice to see a MacGregor 26 out to sea as...

Adding Traps to a rig - easiest way?

OK, seems like an odd question, but rather than drilling into a twin spreader carbon mast, do you guys tend to just weld a loop or something onto the T ball fitting on the D2s instead, and if so, any advice as I am intending to do this to mine and a friend's rig next weekend? Someone said weld...

    smallest OMR legal multi available?

Does anyone know what the smallest design or actually constructed OMR qualifying multi would be, or does anyone want to guess what size it would have to be? The Multi 23 sounds like it doesn't qualify (someone told me this, but I am not sure if actually true); I presume something like the weta...

    BOI Raceweek

Sadly, don't get to sail in it myself, but seems like there is a bit of a showdown between a variety of sporties downunder including a few Shaws, Magics, plus(!) the first M24 to race in NZ (since the Alinghi fiasco) and a T750 or so. http://www.bayofislandssailingweek.org.nz Race 1...

    Kings Cup 2008

OK, only a few months to go, so time to talk (I would say Crap, but since this is a royally supported regatta, I will say rubbish) about who is coming and all that. The weather forecast this year is for a similar pattern to last year in that it is a very cold winter that is expected to kick in...

    mega bargain T750 FYI

I have no connection with it, but coupled with the $14k NZD Viper, right now at Trademe there is a T750 for a mere $21k NZD buy now price. Check dis, might be a nice fleet addition over in perth aye Dachopper? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/B...n-173023643.htm

Understanding this new SMS rating system - HSF?

Hey guys A couple of people have been asking me what boats will comply with the ASBA rules, and judging from RIU/Damo's popularity, the idea of sportboats lying on their side in the water seems to enthuse people to talk of righting moment ;-). After Airlie it seems like the rating system...

All Composite Shaw 650 - update

Well, it takes a while to get things right, and we are making sure we get everything right with this boat. However, in answer to a couple of PMs about how far along we are, right now hull mold is complete; deck and foil molds should be done within this month along with boat number 1 in the...

more a comment than a topic, to eliminate the double post. no need to reply here. The ensure that..... Doug Lord is awesome. Discuss. Or maybe..... building templates for the first glass shaw started last week; hull complete with keelbox. Ply is to measure up the templates for the all...

    Asian Sportboat Regatta NZ 2009?

Does any one know who is arranging, what the story is with shipping boats etc? Several people have asked me in SE Asia, and I also want to head down and do it if it is linked to BOI Raceweek....but no detailios!

Latest Shaw (wooden) hits the water

I wasn't there, but a few mates were, latest Shaw 650 has been launched, and it looks sweet. Which is why it is called Whaka (pronounced Fucka) which means Boat in Maori. I think. This means 4 Shaws now actively sailing, and the expected arrival of 2 more glass boats from Thailand (1 sold...

Asia Pac Champs - Handicaps now out! (invites questions...)

OK, the confirmed entry list is out, and seems like the Thompson has the 'killer rating' for this regatta. For a boat that is supposedly so fast according to the marketing for the regatta, it rates 0.965 SBR which puts it lower than all the Magics at 0.993 and will be lower than the smaller...

    Making a keel

I know TTB and a few others have whipped up one off keels lately, so i just want to put an idea out there, and see if this is the way to do it. I have to build a new keel to support a bulb of max 120kg (actually a little less than that) on a boat that sometimes/ocassionaly needs someone to...

    Fast Times in Thailand Sportboats

Well, not all sail trim positions are fast. After spending vast sums of money on a frigging lead keel, you would think the sodding thing would at least keep the boat upright. the other pic at least shows what happens when the boat isn't laid on its side.
