    Hurricane Season 2022

On the way back from the grocery store I noticed all the political campaign signs are gone. Probably one of the best things to come from this storm.

We took a walk down our street and found most houses suffered roof damage. Few screen cages survived. Most look like a bomb went off. Two sailboats lost their mast. One cat left the canvas up but no obvious problems. A friend with a Beneteau 42 had the Genoa shredded. The old Florida houses...

    Hurricane Season 2022

Looks like I spoke too soon on the boat. The storm blew all the water out of the canal. When it came back in, a spring line ended up on the inside of a stanchion. This drew the boat tight to the pilings. Two big fenders popped and the rails started chewing gouges in the pilings. The midship...

    Hurricane Season 2022

Got back a little after 1PM. Outside is a mess. Pool cage is listing and was about 5 minutes from being gone. Uprooted tree pulled up the pool pump and broke underground pipes. Some fascia is gone. Inside is dry as a bone and about a half hour after we arrived the power went on. But no internet.

We'll be heading home soon. I plan on taking pictures and posting them but if you don't hear from me for a while, you know why.

Why Did It Take A Catastrophe?

Just sent this to Rubio: The eye of Hurricane Ian passed right over our house. And while the destruction was massive, we have all become united, working together to help our fellow Floridians in need. This unity makes handling this disaster so much easier. Senator Rubio, please stop this...

Thank you Max. That's very thoughtful of you. We have a solar panel sewed into our bimini. Not sure of the wattage but when we get back today, getting it up and running is one of the first things on the to-do list. Thanks again, Julie

Why Did It Take A Catastrophe?

Right now Rubio is running this dark, divisive ad, using most of the ad to demonize Val Demmings. If he went out into the communities hardest hit by Ian and recorded himself helping the people and uniting them, that, to me, would almost secure his reelection. And if he won primarily on that...

Why Did It Take A Catastrophe?

Since Ian, Floridians have come together. DeSantis has stopped his campaign of division and is now working for all of Florida. We are united. A devastating hurricane has united us. Why can't it stay this way?

    Hurricane Season 2022

This house is a few doors down from us. The wall that has been exposed by the loss of roof was all glass doors. I don't think any of them were hurricane rated. We're on the same seawall as their northern one. This house is a few doors down the other way Bottom left of the house is a...

Find the time? It's not like there's anything pressing at the moment. They must live next to a sub-station.

    Hurricane Season 2022

When we were bringing the boat over from the other side, we took the Okeechobee Waterway. You could see a light streak in the water and as we got closer a swirl as they dove. There were so many in the water I wondered if a person would ever have a chance if they fell in. But the cows walking...

    Hurricane Season 2022

While waiting yet another day to return home, a neighbor sent this Maybe I need to consider starting a boat covering business. Never did I expect to see the binnacle cover survive this.

    Hurricane Season 2022

Has there been any talk about the Peace River flooding us out like the Myakka is doing in North Port? We were planning to head home today but all the usual routes from Tampa are closed. We could go east to 98 and then south but all the I-75 traffic is being routed there and that's gonna be...

    Hurricane Season 2022

I-75 has been shut down, both directions. SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Myakka River under Interstate 75 (I-75) has risen and impacted the interstate, no longer making it safely passable for motorists. In an abundance of caution, officials closed down I-75 because of water rising from the...

I can't fault them. It's hard to imagine one day everything is normal and the next you're on Mars. Even for me, knowing what I now know, this seems surreal. As for Amazon, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see their trucks rolling through the streets. Anyone with access to the Internet is...
