Did I miss some naysayer prick eating a lot of humble pie or are we still waiting for that?

    shit show (front page)

Everyone remembers what testing is and what its for, right? Pretty sure that when Brian Trubshaw got concorde going he didn't say 'nah lads lets just keep this sub-sonic shall we?'

    Larry's AC50 Circus

There is a UK team spoke to one of the employees of the shore/admin team and they are just getting going, like, in the last month. Skipper is a Brit - it is not Giles Scott or Leigh Mac. I imagine that they'll have someone to race against so the other teams probably only just getting going too.

that was an almost foiling gybe in a dying Solent sea breeze - pretty impressive stuff given the wind strength. if they are doing this in less than 10 knots true then the mind boggles when it comes to the full size bus! closing speeds at the bottom mark are going to raise a few heart rates. so...

I'd imagine ballasting would decrease the amount of hydraulic effort required to get the foil back into the correct position for a tack or gybe and give significant advantage in terms of righting moment (or does that not matter once you are foiling? I wonder if the foil can trim fwd and aft then...

Foiling Monohull - what would it look like?

I assume the other teams are doing this as well right? I mean, actually making a boat that goes in the water?

they'll hand back the landrovers and all get a Grenadier, once they've designed it, built it, come up with a name for it and filled it up with whatever it runs on.

    what is it?

I think that is a very cool little boat and a very cool little home build (considering most home builds are designs stuck in some imagined halcyon). and having a scale model to put together seems to be a bit of a confidence builder for those of us who don't use epoxy every day. the style is...

Another fatality for Clipper Around the World.

Massively impressive they recovered him given their latitude and the conditions. Very sad to hear given that (on the face of it) he was doing everything by the book safety wise and still didn't stay in the game. I imagine losing a crewmate whilst racing will affect the crew in a big way - I...

    Vendee Globe 2016?

So, anyone from the 'Foilgate' end of things want to chip in with some intelligent chat? or will someone start a 'he jettisoned it last night at some point' thread?? Bloody well done Alex and Armel - smashing last editions winning time and a few records in between, top job.

    Vendee Globe 2016?

Cant be fucked to look back through this thread after being in a place with no internet for what feels like an eternity.... Did Alex have a broken foil or was it all bullshit?

Round the Island Race (UK). Sinkings, records and more.

j-80 conforms to Category 'B' of the EU Recreational Craft Directive - something pointed out to the Cowes Combined Clubs about 7 years ago. So they have a bit of paper saying that the boat is ok in waves up to 4m and Beaufort 8.

    ...Team VESTAS WIND...the resurrection thread.

So Clean, when do get the full video nasty? that's what were really interested in. We want a full Coxy voiced directors cut of the rescue plan and how well they stuck to it followed by a camera in the shed to watch daily progress of the re-build.

Me neither, but here is is on the internet so it must be true http://www.volvooceanrace.com/en/news/8188_Off-the-rocks.html and here (http://www.volvooceanrace.com/en/news/8192_A-job-well-done.html) he is talking about which bits could go into a new boat. its all bollocks until they actually...

    ...Team VESTAS WIND...the resurrection thread.

Seeing some IBC containers filled with water holding the mast down to allow the keel to be cut away AND a stage of scaffolding with some IBC containers weighing it down, here's my theory: Drum roll please...... 1. Using the mast, pull the boat all the way over onto its side (given that the...

    ...Team VESTAS WIND...the resurrection thread.

Its been said before but a #8 hull ready to go will be at the top of everyone's list for the next edition of the race - less miles under the keel but just as capable. I wonder why it wasn't done? With more boats planned to be in the next edition of the race, and the whole "fairytale story, came...
