56 registered for the NA's here in Charleston at the end of September. Lots of good names in the fleet too with some cross overs from the VX'ers.

    Zhik powerpads/wetsuit combos

I've tried the original power pads and the power pads 2. Both with various Zhik wetsuit bottoms and/or short johns. I've had issues with them staying up on my legs. Even returned them for and tried a different size. I got the power pads 2 for $65 on their 50% EOY sale so haven't felt so bad...

    Old Laser M-rig

Thanks! It was an older Radial with a halyard and NOT an M-Rig.

So this is an instance where the lawyers didn't get ALL the money?

    Old Laser M-rig

Thanks for the replies. Now I'm feeling like a bit of a hypocrite. I haven't been faced with it yet, (and really don't expect to) but now I'm wondering what I'd do if the same newbie kid and his parents showed up to an event with one of the non-plaqued "Laser" hulls...I mean, this was a...

    Old Laser M-rig

We had a D12 event in June and a kid showed up with a vintage hull and M rig sail. Both were in nearly new condition. At first I thought it was a radial sail but the "Sun beam"? color scheme threw me and then I saw the halyard set up and knew what it was. I used some duct tape to put a "0" on...

Lasers - Applying a Blow Torch

ILCA is a class organization run by ILCA sailors and not builders, (that have been contracted by the ILCA to build boats). So, are the sailors/players not running the game now?

Lasers - Applying a Blow Torch

IMO there's no longer a "mess". LPE failed as a class builder. The class separated itself from LPE. Since LPE held/holds the "Laser" name rights The ILCA class needed a different name for new builders to build under. That was done. LPE has moved on with the "Port Star". It's over folks.

New Terms and Rules, are we fucked?

I picked up an umbrella policy that has a rider for just this sort of shit. Not that I'm looking for excuses to try it out....

Laser / ILCA class legal sails. Pryde or North?

Ex VAT.  So what are the $5,500 of Value Added Taxes that are removed?  And What is shipping to the US?  Considering the used  VX market has jumped into the high $20k range I have a hard time believing a new sail away FOB delivered price to the US is under $30k.  A new set of North sails alone...

Ok.  I get the compare comment now.  The M15 is the most viable, (from a budget standpoint) entry into the sport boat market for a crew of 2 here in the US.  I think it's a great gateway boat to the VX and a great option for those who don't have the cash but want to play in double handed asym...

I haven't seen anyone do it.  I'm hearing a good competitive weight range is sub - 300lbs'ish.

I'm talking about the true, sail away price clearly listed at 33,995 pounds on the link you sent.  Which converts to the $40k+ US price, (not sure if that includes shipping?).  Ex VAT price is not that.  So, you are correct.  They do NOT compare.  I'm only interested in the pricing that actually...

Actually, that converts to $41,429.00 US.  Still a bit less than $50k.  True too it's a different level from the M15.  I'm in love with the VX I crew on, but if someone wants to race in a sporty asym class the M15 offers an easier entry on the wallet and crew needs.

My initial thought on this was the two marks were so close together a VX couldn't get between the two.  If one did then IMO they should have been DQ'd.  SI's clearly state both WM and offset must be left to port....I don't believe they mention in what order.  However, the course diagram shows WM...

Laser / ILCA class legal sails. Pryde or North?

The Hydes's tend to run about $50 more US.  I always specify when I order.

This boat is taking off in the S.E.  We're seeing 15+ on the line at events.  I'm looking forward to the chance of sailing one.  They look sweet and visually I can't find one thing wrong with them.  Seem to be well sorted and no one is batting an eye at the price, (which when you compare it to a...

Laser / ILCA class legal sails. Pryde or North?

I have an Olympian friend who prefers Pryde.  I've not used one.  I've had a North and a Hyde.  I prefer the Hyde.  From a performance standpoint I just feel like it looks better, (this could very well be in my head, but sailing is pretty mental). From a quality standpoint Hyde and Pride double...

Thanks for that explanation.  As one of the Vx'ers I wondered how things got fubar'ed.  I think we all just quickly figured we had to leave both marks to port and so we did!  Damn J24's....
