Why America has 8.4 million unemployed when there are 10 million job openings

Oh good grief..........I would like to see things from your point of view, but I'm just not willing to stick my head that far up my ass to do it....  You're hopelessly over your head on this one.

Why America has 8.4 million unemployed when there are 10 million job openings

That's the answer I would expect from a "Retired Pol Sci Professor" who has no idea how business operates.  Automation allows for much greater productivity, but it requires a higher level of technical skill to design, build, install, operate and maintain the equipment.  Not to mention the...

Why America has 8.4 million unemployed when there are 10 million job openings

If you sail, you're going to use sandpaper at some point.  It used to be a very labor intensive process to produce sanding discs and with labor a large part of the cost alternatives were needed to meet the expectations of a price point target (or else move your production to a low cost labor...

Retirement planning - how much does it cost!

We started off with a countertop unit, but we sold it off in the Caribbean as the ice does not last long in your drink.  We found ice trays that make 2"x2"x2" cubes that work great.

    In-mast furling

We bought a 2008 Jeanneau 45 in 2017 with in-spar furling.  While I wanted a stack pack/slab reefing there were too many other positives about the boat we went ahead with the purchase anyway.  We sailed south from Rhode Island and have been in the Caribbean since 2018.  Prior to departing we...

Retirement planning - how much does it cost!

The boat is now 13 years old, but in great shape.  This year we're budgeting: Replacing our anchor chain - $2000 Partial shroud replacement - $3000 Remove and rebed cabin house windows - $3000 Replace Yanmar hoses, new water muffler, PYI dripless shaft service, misc engine work -...

Retirement planning - how much does it cost!

Actually, we did shop around.  Our past insurance was through the Gowrie Group and their Jackline Policy with Markel as the insurer.  Good insurance with a AM Best rating of "A".  We had to purchase a rider to stay in Grenada and the deductible, in the case of named storm damage was $18,000. ...

Retirement planning - how much does it cost!

We've been cruising full time in the Caribbean Windward Islands for three years on a 2008 Jeanneau 45DS.  We typically go out to local restaurants around twice a week and always take the local dollar buses for transport.  We're always at anchor, but spend 4 to 6 weeks in a Grenada marina this...

What do you yell at the helmsman when reversing?

True, hand signals are also effective....  Inoffensive, sometimes not.....

What do you yell at the helmsman when reversing?

Usually it's my wife on the bow yelling back "what the f*ck are you doing??"

    Orca Damage

Looks like the sharks also want to get in on the action.  Friend posted this on FB yesterday.  They were delivering Pyewacket back to CA after the Transpac when a shark approached them and went under the boat......woke up the off watch crew as the shark attempted to chew off the bulb.  The were...

    Buh-Bye Gulf Stream?

Agreed.  It's beyond any logic on how an uncalibrated low accuracy device can develop, with any degree of confidence, that the SST is increasing at a rate of 0.12 deg C in a decade.  To me they are just measuring noise with the bucket and engine intake readings.  Garbage in, garbage out.

    Buh-Bye Gulf Stream?

Thanks for the first hand information and confirmation!  Good information on the calibration also, pretty much what I thought.  So the scientists are taking these uncalibrated rough temperature readings and adjusting them up or down (they refer to it as 'bias') probably a couple of tenths of a...

    Buh-Bye Gulf Stream?

I understand what you're saying, however they do not address the raw temperature data in the report.  It is my assumption that the sea water tempurature measurements did not need to be accurate for the purposes of operating the vessel.  They were not recording this information for purposes of...

    Buh-Bye Gulf Stream?

And a good deal of that is a load of bollocks. What exactly are you correcting for? So a bucket goes over the side, gets pulled back on beck and a mercury thermometer is dropped into the bucket for X amount of time.....like 30 seconds? The error likely isn't the change of temp of the bucket of...
