I was in getting some rope and low friction rings today and got taken to task for not up-dating SA often enough as people are living vicariously through the forum and boat.
So a little taste.
Blue rope is the Jib Halyard, I'm going to slide the jib up and down the luff wire to alter...
TS, very very happy to leave all that shite to you to mull over.
I just want to go sailing and drink red-wine with mates.
Sailing in non-affiliated events is not just a real option, but is happening most of the time
But, if all of us joined the association, and voted for change, then change...
Not so sure I'm the celebrated designer of the 29er, lots of people would disagree with that, but I have had lots of fun and the 29er will remain one of those things that I am truly glad to have been involved with.
I have sailed 29ers (& 49ers & 18teens) single handed on many occasions. There...
TS if "we" as an association chose to stay with SMS then all that happens is "we" as people who sail the boats will go sailing in non ASBA events as is presently happening. I don't see this as a make or break decision for me, I will still do PL & B-B & AB & Super30 etc. So will a lot of you...
Well that's a plus, publishing the results, well done Mike and the Committee.
GT commented that I need to join the assoc, so I have just done so. Least I can do!
Boat is not going to hit the water until 2nd week in Nov, 10 days in Europe, sister's wake, all making the delay inevitable...
Your problem will be the boat will be out of balance without the jib, so very likely to go into irons.
You can't rake the boat further aft, so there really is no solution.
You could try and find a XS rig, but they are rare as hens teeth at present.
Other option is to give it a go, pull the fin...
Talk about quick off the mark. Picky picky picky.
I said M4 for the 49er, that was a error,
The 49er uses M3 Dyform on the Fore-stay, Primary shrouds and D1's. It uses M2.5 Dyform on the caps.
Re weight, if I used Dyform based on what say Skeeter uses I would have:
M6 Dyform Forestay, 10m...
Re talking about BS, solely in the capacity that the rig will lurch and I know from old 18teen days you need at-least 200% safety margin (interesting ISO has settle on 220% and I would agree with that). Old 18teen days, the Forestay, if you used M3 or M3.2 (old 1/8") you got at best 3 months...
So a bunch of questions.
N [Newtons) -> Kgs, divide by (I assume) gravity 9.8m/s/s or just divide by 9.8.
So yes, my main shrouds will be M5 DM20 SK99 (BS = 2870kgs) so I will have to take them to approx 2 tonne, to "season" then.
More scary is my fore-stay, which is M6 DM20 SK99 (BS =...
Lamgav, they are $USD25 each (set). So one SS loop and one 3D printed seat.
As commented black bit is 3D printed, so if you have a accurate profile or the end of your spreader the 3D printing can be tweaked.
If you order 200 of them, price 1/2ves, normal, normal, same!
Either SYD or HK...
I have 10 sitting on my desk.
I need 4. and a few spares.
I can spare 4, but if you want more, I can get them sent directly from HK.
If you go back up the string you will find Sean Lam, I can contact him for you.
Or PM me and I will give you his contact details.
But let me find you a price first
Pretty interesting day.
I'm very empirical, so I like to do my own tests.
Today I started loading up M4 DM20 SK99 , to find out about stretch and creep.
I'm using Marlow, mostly because I own a roll of it, I'm sure Liros is just as good.
Just so people are sure of what I am using.
And yes that...
There are 3 or 4 things here that need to be reconciled when it come to rating systems.
If we want the sport to prosper then we need system(s) that foster participation.
#1 is a system that allow boats of dis-similar design to complete against one-another and dis-similar design could be Vivace...
Scillyjosh, needs to stress mine is functional, I don't care about perfection with stuff like this, so if your a looks man, then get it done in the UK.
But I have this relationship with Sean Lam, he is Hong Kong Chinese, met him sailing B14's maybe 30 - 35 years ago.
The important thing is his...
WCB, she had a extraordinary life, did amazing things, happier going sideways in a car on dirt at +100kph, fully under control, than standing still, no man could keep up with her, she was Mensa, but she loved the fags and her QoL took a hit 2 years ago, so she is in a better place.
Huge few days while the sun shines
All the EVA is on, Wings obviously are on, jib track, bunch of other fittings are all happening.
Even had a chance to hike her down and its pretty comfortable.
We will really start to pick up the pace now, re ropes and fitting etc.
Foils will be my Achilles...
I'm just using multiple very sharp Olf blades, and doing it by hand, it's relatively easy.
89 is cut in, so they have replaced the whole number/lettering with a different color EVA foam.
Slow day today, had a morning meeting and took the wife for lunch.
EVA foam on the for-deck is down, did it by myself, few moments but ended up great.
Lots of pre, and that probably saved me.
Mast step is also on.
The lumps in the EVA (3 per side) are for the jib track mounts, that will happen tomorrow, right up the front you maybe able to see the jibsheet...
